It's about time someone took this little-known tale and made it into a complete book of its own. The story is classic, though it doesn't have the widespread popularity of other Grimms tales like Rapunzel or Hansel and Gretel, and Kim Jacobs masterfully includes small explanations for actions that modern readers love while retaining the mysteries of the story of a girl who must save her brothers' lives by sewing in silence. The illustrations are just what we lovers of fairy tales adore: somehow both realistic and hypnotically otherworldly. As a school librarian, I know that one can never have enough interesting and thoughtful princess stories on one's shelves.
