Prisoner really sits at the border of being a good book and being an ordinary one. A little more detailing and character development may have even put it in the league of awesome. Sadly, Megan does not push through and we have a book that I liked but felt was rushed. Still the focus is on the characters and their relationships and there are points where you find are very entertaining. All in all a decent read but with a simplistic world setting and a even more simplistic magic system it never truly draws you in.
I'm leaving this note here for my own information so, at a later date when I decide I need to read more Derr books, I will remember why I took this one off my TBR unread.
After doing a little more research, I have come across 1) people likening this to Stockholm Syndrome 2) people saying the main romance is somewhat abusive 3) people saying this is enemies to lovers and 4) comparing it to Captive Prince.
None of the above - even hints at any of the above - is for me.
