This is the story of Precious Jones, a sixteen year old illiterate black girl who has never been out of Harlem. She is pregnant by her own father for the second time, and kicked out of school when that pregnancy becomes obvious. Placed in an alternative teaching programme, she learns to read and write. This is Precious's diary, in which she honestly records her relationships and her life.

Honestly, I was very excited to start reading this book because of the sinopses but this book was a waste of my time to be honest, starting with the fact that it feels like the book is not even finished. Also, in my opinion, it felt like the author of this book (Sapphire) didn't even know what she was writting about sometimes, like she was lost. I understand the topics she was talking about and I think they are important and everyone should talk about them but Sapphire couldn't take advantage of them to write a good book.
