The Phantom of the Opera

I was expecting the Phantom to be more tragic figure from what I'd heard. It was well written and I liked the effort to make it seem like a “report of the truth,” complete with footnotes and newspaper “clippings.” But I had trouble with the emotional distance from the stars of the story and ultimately am giving 3 stars.

I felt like I was supposed to feel something for the Phantom but to me he was just a monster. There have been plenty of people ostracized for their ugly looks who did not end up like this.
