A creative and very original plot. I enjoyed the book greatly. Some reviews say that the book is overly graphic in its violence. I disagree entirely. There is graphic violence in the mistreatment of slaves, but it is entirely in the service of the plot as the violence is indicative of that visited upon slaves historically. The author did this intentionally. It is only done in service of the story and raises the stakes of the thriller to great effect.
