The Portal Guardians

I received this book as ARC from the author. 

This is the first book in the Amalgam Chronicles fantasy series. It has an unusual band of characters that are found throughout the story when they keep being sent through disappearing portals between worlds. 

The story principal was good however the writing wasn't. Some sections I thought were very confusing or should have been expanded on such as describing what characters looked like and sometimes there's no clear dialogue direction. The multiple POV often got confusing and wasn't clear and the narrators voice sometimes seems to shift. I enjoyed the diverse characters and the portrayal of Blue the cat and I thought the world building was also well thought out. 

I would say the books is more YA or for a mature child as there are a few mild sexual references and slight gory sections. 

I gave the book a 3 as the writing needs to be edited and parts of the story expanded however saying that, I am looking forward to future books in the series and hopefully the writing will get better.
