This book was very slow going at first. I laboured over the minute descriptions of walls, rugs and people. It took a while for me to understand the intent of this memoir. But once the author got into Nunavut (a new Canadian province), the flagging motivation suddenly picked up. In plotting the journey of the snow goose, the author learned more about his longing to get away and his longing for home. Ultimately this little book is a testament to the harsh conditions of the tundra and the resilience of the people, a call out to the special and revered places of the Inuit, a commentary on the march of time – a love letter to Canada.
