Five stars for atmosphere and vivid characters and great description. One star for starting a character on a quest in chapter one and giving that quest no real answers by the end of the book. He tries his father's old standby of Calvin's Institues; he tries education; he tries womankind. He throws them all aside and says he is looking for peace just as much as he was before, so he goes of to war to find it? But of course he never finds the answer because he doesn't give God a try—just religion.
Book's message: “vanity, vanity.”
