Vain puoliksi kuningas

I haven't read any Abercrombie so far, for some reason, and decided to start with this after seeing the third book often enough at the local library. Fortunately they had the first two books available as well, and off we go!

Looks like we have a fairly standard quest plot here, with an interesting character: the Half King is Yarvi, a prince with just one good hand, destined to be a priest when his father and brother are mercilessly killed, making him the king. He must avenge, which leads to him being sold in slavery and the throne taken over by a usurper.

He never wanted the throne in the first place – now he is sworn to take it back, no matter what. It's all pretty good, avoids the worst cliches, is at times quite funny really and the world-building is also fascinating. I'm definitely reading the next two, and I'm pretty sure my son will also like this book a lot.
