This is definitely one of the most unusual books I have ever read. I would have rated it five stars, except for some content; the philsophies in it, very common ones for WW1 era, are almost Eastern in spots. Also, the final chapter could have been spun out just a tad to make it perfect. But I loved it, despite its oddities. The emotion of the story is so beautiful, and the main character is such a fine man overall.
