A book full of characters, mostly delightful ones, and a sweet love story between the main characters.
For modernists, this would be way too wordy a story. She could probably have told the same tale contained in both volumes in a third of the space, but with what a sacrifice of lush detail and periodic flavor. I loved the overage of words because it made the pleasant tales last all day for me! (Yes, I know I have a reading problem. 1000 pages on my day off work!)
