Misery is one of those books that transcends its medium and leaks into the pop culture zeitgeist of society. It’s rather impossible to not know the central shock moments of it if you have the internet. It's a story that has been riffed on endlessly across various art forms: in my case it was Family Guy that spoiled it for me. So with that said, I do think having known the big moments that occur in this isolated thriller did affect my overall enjoyment of it. I reckon when I get around to finally watching it now, I do think I'll prefer the film adaptation.
