... if you believe your father may be a misunderstood Satan with daddy issues and your best friend is a chain-smoking head who is trying to betray you; all while you're trying to save the world from the various rank and file of the undead and an avenging angel is trying to kill you... Then you are sharing a typical day for James Stark aka Sandman Slim who escaped from Fight Club in hell in Richard Kadrey's first book in this series titled after the character Sandman Slim.

Kadrey builds on his first book with humor, excellent character development, gratuitous violence, and oh yeah sex.

A sustainable and fun read for those who dote on urban fantasy.

Rollins is a fine story teller but this is a confused pastiche of Mormonism, early American history, Native American heritage, nutrino theory, and espionage which finally fell apart completely in the end. I almost gave this a two but again Rollins knows how to tell a story.

I've listened to the tape which is abridged and now I'm curious enough to get the book from the library to see what I've missed.

Good book. Not as compelling as if he had taken the business from scratch rather than starting with his father's business which was already pulling down $4 million. But still some good stuff to glean

Very well written but unrelentingly barren, violent, and cold. At times the stretch for metaphor becomes a touch too obvious for me. Still a definite read.

An excellent book to begin the new year with. I've taken a ton of notes and read every word. No skimming with these lessons. Truly an education.

A grim reaper story to die for!

Sarcastic, snarky, and seriously funny with hot, sexy time.

A bag ‘o chips book that will keep you entertained and wanting more.

This is not another funny book by Augusten Burroughs. It is serious with some humor and taken from that perspective it is (insert superlative here). With this book Mr. Burroughs took the road less traveled and it works. You will recognize yourself in some of these scenarios even if you don't want to.

Delightful book featuring... conmen/conwomen/conpeople..., let's just leave it at grifters who take us through cons, crosses, double crosses, bag drops and more. Pure reading pleasure with the great advice of “Be the show”.

Truly a Good Read.

Sometimes a little choppy, but for the most part Sedaris is hilarious...ohh look it's rhymely...one that I'm sure that no one has ever executed before ;-)

This is a great break book for when you have read too much serious stuff and I don't meant that in a condescending way. The chapters are introduced by bumper stickers and sayings on t-shirts for example, “When killing clowns always go for the juggler”. If you find that funny - and I did - you'll like this book.

The concept of a wise-cracking, klutzy grim-reaper is good, the storyline is good and it is an easy, fun read.

It does get a little off track right near the end but the author pulls it back in preparation for book two in the series.

This is a good debut novel and I'm looking forward to more.

Premise is good. Gets muddled in the middle. Nathan seems like a rescue character who has no real purpose except to move the story when the author gets stuck.

Coming of age story chronicling the love and the cruelties that families inflict on one another. Worth a read although I found myself skimming on occasion.

Didn't care for the POV thing. Loved the introduction of the Arch Druid Owen.

Kevin Hearne delivers a darker book this time that is still grippingly alluring. There is still great humor here and I missed all the wordplay between Atticus and Oberon (there's still some here.) Overall Mr. Hearne once again delivers. It will be hard to wait for his next offering.

It's a good book that went on, and on, and on until it became less of a good book.

A little wandering at times but all in all a good story.

I thought this was a fantastically fun novel. Well plotted - and for God's sakes it's about the rare book trade. This cements me as a John Grisham fanboy!

Very disappointing. I've loved all of Earlene Fowler's books up to this point and have always been excited when they came out. This one takes a lot of character development at the beginning and I was about to abandon it. But I knew I had liked her books before so I gave it a bit more time. This new series is preachy and frankly I really do not like that. I also did not like the chapter breakups by character as I do not like that literary device and think it is a cop out. The characters got a little better at one point and then went directly back into being very much cliched with the occasional somewhat amusing throwaway lines. I'm glad when an author branches out but this is a rotting limb for me.

Delightfully well done.

I was reluctant to start this book because I had just finished another big book that left me less than happy. I'm glad I hung in there though as Ms. Harkness's book was quite satisfying. There were a couple of things that kept me from enjoying the book completely though.

Sometimes the characters got so involved in what the wine smelled like that felt a bit like “oeninism” - pun intended - In reading the back flap I found that Ms. Harkness also writes a popular blog about wine - so I cut her some slack.

Overall a rollicking good read although it does take some time to discover that this book tastes less like rocks and more like honey.

Clever British set police procedural with a savvy serial killer who specializes in killing two birds with one stone.

Super competent police officer, Helen Grace, has a guilt fetish so strong she meets her master on a regular basis to get beaten till she bleeds...but she's always in control.

If I had one complaint it would be that Helen tends to blame others before she has the full details which seems a bit screwy since she's so kick ass in everything else.

Tension is created from the get go and you will come away from this story admiring the solid plot twist. Who will be the last to emerge from this twisted plot and will they ever really recover from having won?

I'm not sure if this is reverse inspiration or full frontal...either way this is a great book in comic form that perfectly expresses how I'm guessing most of us feel about running.
