Mr. Brown wrote the first few chapters of this book as if he were already writing the script for the movie. The only problem is, is that in my opinion this movie, which will be a blockbuster starring Tom Hanks, should actually be a written for television movie.
I think in a lot of ways this book simply abandoned story. I kept reading because I didn't think it was so awful and then I got to the final chapters and discovered that yes indeed it was pretty awful. The final supposedly exciting conclusions left me cold, left me bored and left me annoyed that I'd put this much time into “the word”.
... if you believe your father may be a misunderstood Satan with daddy issues and your best friend is a chain-smoking head who is trying to betray you; all while you're trying to save the world from the various rank and file of the undead and an avenging angel is trying to kill you... Then you are sharing a typical day for James Stark aka Sandman Slim who escaped from Fight Club in hell in Richard Kadrey's first book in this series titled after the character Sandman Slim.
Kadrey builds on his first book with humor, excellent character development, gratuitous violence, and oh yeah sex.
A sustainable and fun read for those who dote on urban fantasy.

This is not another funny book by Augusten Burroughs. It is serious with some humor and taken from that perspective it is (insert superlative here). With this book Mr. Burroughs took the road less traveled and it works. You will recognize yourself in some of these scenarios even if you don't want to.
When you're young things are bright and shiny as a new penny. When you're older you have the patina of the years that has grown on you bit by bit. For me this was an amusing, sometimes confusing, and ultimately biting look at the timeline we all share as we live our lives. Worth a read...and some parts are worth several reads.
Nothing revolutionary but Josh Davis from the NeuroLeadership Institute has caused me to do something that tons of other self-help books haven't and that is to make a conscious change.
The first 69 pages made a strong enough impression that I've now posted a note so I am always reminded of the principles of decision points:
” *Savor each decision point. *Plan your decision points in advance. *Don't start a new task without consciously deciding it's the right one.”
Good stuff!
Does Rosie Schaap drink too much? That's not for me to decide. What I can tell you is that she draws you into a world of friendship and chosen families then wraps you in a cocoon of comfort. Ms. Schaap's story is just the right blend of taste and emotion for a satisfying recounting of one part of her life.

Clever British set police procedural with a savvy serial killer who specializes in killing two birds with one stone.
Super competent police officer, Helen Grace, has a guilt fetish so strong she meets her master on a regular basis to get beaten till she bleeds...but she's always in control.
If I had one complaint it would be that Helen tends to blame others before she has the full details which seems a bit screwy since she's so kick ass in everything else.
Tension is created from the get go and you will come away from this story admiring the solid plot twist. Who will be the last to emerge from this twisted plot and will they ever really recover from having won?

Depressive former-banker mother, passive-aggressive novelist father, Charlie the odd child who get's a “tightening” when something bad is about to happen and the baby, Bub, move to upstate New York to refurbish the run down family estate after Charlie is bullied at his former New York school. Fundamentalist religious sect welcomes them, integrates them, and then demands adherence to their religious laws. Hilarity does not ensue.
To me this is somewhat of a mashup between Harvest Home by Thomas Tryon and The Shining by Stephen King. Duffy moves the action along and throws in some intriguing plot twists. This one kept me up past my bedtime reading and then kept me awake. Super satisfying read.

A man's relationship with food and eating.
Mostly liked and there are many times that this is truly snort out loud funny.
Like one of the other reviewers there were a couple of bits around Emeril and Jacques Blanc which didn't seem to be terribly cohesive.
But yeah I'd hang with this guy and I think we'd have a good time.
Non-fiction book about one woman's year long journey into creating her own reality. Mostly a good book although some of the folks she quoted I resonated with more than the author. One quote in particular was delightful and I paraphrase...“How can you open yourself to abundance if your heart is closed tight like a fist?” Again, I'm not looking at the book so the quote is probably just close but I love the lesson.
If you believe in creating your own reality this is a quite good reference.
