After reading Coraline earlier this year (not really a fan of that book) I thought I'd give another Gaiman book a try and this book was picked for me (cheers babe). Gotta say it was a weird one but then fantasy books sometimes are, a little slow in parts but built up nicely to a tied up ending. Was disappointed with one of the threads of the story though and I thought it could've been done differently.

I so very much need to read the second book!! This was sooo good!

I don't really read books about war or historical fiction but this may actually have given me the push to start reading them more. Emotional, exciting, slightly violent and high-lighting that it's not how you look that makes you who you are but what's inside and what you go through as a person that shapes you.

I now wait, not so very patiently at all, for the next book. twiddles thumbs, looks at watch and sighs dramatically

I should've read this in school but decided against it after reading the first story. I can't believe it's took me this long to read the rest of them as I quite enjoyed them, not all of them were to my taste though but I really liked others.

Well that was creepy as f**k!! If I hadn't had to sleep I would've read the whole thing without putting it down!

Evil cults (yes cults but swap one letter of that and that also applies), blood, gore, booze, cigarettes and much insanity abounds in this rollicking tale spun by one of my new favourite authors Mr. Adam Nevill. I bloody loved it.

Will absolutely, definitely be reading more by him and hope they are all just as good.

Very quick and easy read, the stories were way to short for me to feel any sense of being scared or creeped out.

The stars are for the illustrations only because they are wonderful.

I think ‘ever so slightly creeped out at the claustrophobic scene' will have to suffice as my ‘book that scares you' because it didn't scare me, at all.

I think I've been de-sensitised by all the horror books I've read over the years. Maybe I should read more romance novels cause they can scare the crap out of me!! :)

I really, really enjoyed this. Murder mysteries set in both present day and in the 1890's, ghosts, a little violence, humour, jazz, small town, the sort of pub I'd be at home in and a huge dog. Who could ask for more!

I will definitely be reading the rest of this series and more by this author. Wonderful book.

An enjoyable Christmas cozy mystery. Takes place in a town that I want to visit, to experience a small town Christmas, snuggled up on the sofa, lights twinkling as you watch the snow fall through the window. Sounds perfect.

I love me some Dean Koontz and thoroughly enjoyed this extremely quick Christmas read, I know it's really for kids but who cares if it's enjoyable.

Two short romances at Christmas time, they're your typical romances, meet cute, quickly falling in love, some sort of drama where there are misunderstandings and the characters don't communicate their feelings, both get angry/upset and one leaves crying/angry, one realises that they've made a mistake/been a fool and goes back to beg forgiveness and all is forgiven and they live happily ever after.

Have I summed that up about right?

They weren't too bad, nice and festive and that's really all I ask for in a book set at Christmas time.

3 stars.

That was a very quick, if slightly too religious for me, read. Kinda Christmassy but not as Christmassy as I was hoping for. It did bring a tear to my eye which doesn't usually happen but I'm a sucker for Christmas carols (even though religion again) as they make me smile.

As I've said before religion just ain't my bag baby so I mean no offence to anyone.

This not only has elements of The Thing and The Abyss but also Event Horizon and Hellraiser (I think so anyway).

It's a good story and can be a little claustrophobic in parts, there are horrifying and disgusting bits too and lots of water. And some animals. I love LB.

I wanted this book to scare me, I really hoped it would do but, sadly, it didn't.

It's a really good book, full of eerie happenings and depravity. The characters, I thought, were well rounded and sympathetic and I like how the ending was all wrapped up nicely.

I gave it 4 stars simply because it wasn't scary, maybe that's because I'm used to reading books like this and need more to make me scared. If I'd have read this when I was younger I'm sure if have slept with the lights on for a few days afterwards.

Loved this!! I've had a few days without reading, a mini slump if you will, and this was ideal to get my back to it to complete my other reading challenge of the year.

5 stars

Slightly different from the film as its longer and it takes Dorothy a little while longer to get home, the wicked witch of the west doesn't really play a huge part in this and it seems a little more ‘violent' in parts but doesn't read like it's horrifying, just matter of fact, especially how the Tin Man became the Tin Man.

Overall, I really enjoyed it and it's a very quick read, didn't start it until earlier today and went through it quite quickly. I will read the other 13 stories as I have the complete collection.

I read The Amityville Horror a while back and, as I'd purchased that one, this one, The Amityville Horror 3 and Amityville 3-D, I thought I'd give this one a read as a: I'd already got it, b: I wanted to see where the story went and c: it would count as A Book That Scared Me.

A: I got it because I wanted them all, I'm a completist.
B: the story went to a different state and then different countries for randomness.
C: it does not count as a book that scares me as it didn't scare me, at all.

I don't even know why I've given it 3 stars. You'd think they'd get the kids exorcised as well, especially Amy, even though I know she wasn't really affected like George and Kathy were and wasn't nearly drowned like Greg, Matt didn't really have much happen to him either but I'd think they'd try and get Jodie gone although that would upset Amy.

One of the best books I read when I was younger, still enjoy it and it is an extremely quick read. Love it.

It's took me waaaaay too long to read this, couldn't really get into it and forced myself to finish it before it had been on here for months.

Wasn't the best procedural/crime novel I've ever read and I read a lot of them, may give other books by this author a go but won't go out of my way to pick one up.

3 stars

Not really a fan of romance novels but this was one I read when I was younger as my mum loves it and said I should give it a try.

I enjoyed the humour and the romance wasn't bad, a quick read and there's nothing more I can say about it really.

3.5 stars

I love Castle and for that reason I enjoyed this book, it's not the greatest book ever but it's also not the worst, it's funny, has some action and murder and a tiny bit of romance/sex which is all I really expected out of it.

The downside was that the first time the murderer was introduced I said that that was the murderer and was proved right, I wish they'd've made it someone different or made it harder to figure out.

With that being said I will was the rest of the series as I have them and I can.

For me this wasn't scary in the slightest, even reading it at night with the lights off didn't scare me, it just made me tired.

Don't have much else to say about it just that it was very descriptive and I love Spider.

This book felt so long! Longer than A Game of Thrones and that's a long ass book.

I think I had the movie in my head too much and I didn't like that movie at all, it seemed to cloud my sleep addled brain and that little bastard at the back going, ‘well that's different than the film and so is that', little fucker that he is would not shut up!!

Maybe a re-read one day is in order to see if my view changes but I don't think that's gonna be for a while yet, gots lots more books to read and I ain't getting any younger.

2 stars

I know I should probably give this more stars but I'm struggling to give it 2 to be honest.

I didn't like it, I know that it's a ‘classic' and a ‘must read' but I don't see why, maybe I just didn't understand it, maybe it's because I wasn't affected by the end of the book, maybe I'm just a horrible person. I just didn't like it. At least I know that now.

2 stars

Was not a fan of this, not sure why at the moment, maybe I'll update this review when I can work out why I don't like it.
