Pack Dutton: Part 2

Wrote a review for

A continuation that honestly became a little underwhelming.

  • We pick up right where we left the last book. With the reemergence of issues that made this feel a bit repetitive right from the start.
  • The characters don't feel like they evolved much from one book to the next making it honestly feel like these two parts should be only one book put together. But honestly they were the highlight of this series.
  • We get introduced to more problems with bigger consequences that impact the whole society of this book (that honestly felt a little close to home). These were bigger issues than the previous ones but given this is the hopeful start of a series they did not get solved, so they only served to make the bleak situations in this world feel unsurmountable and frustrating.

Overall, I felt underwhelmed with this, because the issues from the first book were mostly resolved right at the start of this one and then we had to wait until almost the end to see the culmination of the others, this felt like it really went nowhere.

This was a bit of a ride for me.

  1. This is called by the author a dark romance, while it has a few inklings of if at the beginning I'm not sure I would call it that. The darkest parts of this book were the backstory at the beginning and the event that leads to everyone meeting. That had some really dark moments but it was somewhat quick to pass.
  2. Relationship wise, we have 2 pairs of guys that come together in different ways. One of the pairs is part of an established relationship with our female character, these two had different personalities and the worst I can say about them is that they like things i don't. The second pair of guys is the reason for the dark romance tag and they do fall within that genre for a little bit. My issue is that after that I don't feel the groveling and revenge were fitting as punishment.
  3. Our female character was lauded as strong and badass but we hear about it more than we see, though we do see a little of it. I wasn't convinced.

Unconvinced, that is the best description of what I felt, I went expecting something, got a hint of it and then it didn't fully follow on promises made.

Choosing Their Omega

A very very sweet book.

  • The world is light and not very important during this book.
  • The main character is in a bad situation to start but it's very glossed over and over very fast.
  • As soon as we meet the male characters we get insta lust and very soon after love.
  • The kid character was mostly an afterthought and also suffered from the insta connection.

Overall, it was too sweet, nothing bad happened, everything was convenient and solved in no time. Kinda boring.

A Soul to Keep

Wrote a review for

It was fine,

  • The world is not super developed or my cup of tea.
  • It was mostly about the relationship building and the main character accepting that she has weird tastes.
  • I liked the second Mavka character and that little bit of plot.
  • Also liked the final discoveries of their origins, even if they were not very detailed or expected.

Honestly it was fine, almost a bit boring for me.

I Married a Lizardman

A light read,

  • The world is interesting with many different species we hear about, even if we don't see many interactions between them yet. Since this is a romance series that follows a different couple and species in each book, there is hope that in future books we see even more different beings.
  • The actual romance was good. A sweet relationship with some but not too harrowing obstacles in their way.
  • I liked the Sci-fi aspect of discovery in this a lot, the interactions of the different characters getting to know and understand each others' differences was entertaining for me.
  • The actual plot wasn't very heavy, and resolved quite quickly.

Overall it was a good, light romance with some plot but mostly character focused.

The conclusion. Wrap-up of basically everything.

  • In this book we get to acknowledge that our main character really is special in her world with her Gods getting somewhat involved in response to her prayers. This to join the fact that her having multiple mates is already a break from everything they've ever seen before.
  • We get the final closing of her relationships since all the men weren't all involved with her during the rest of the series. For me some of these felt underwhelming since there are so many guys and they were all at the very least emotionally involved already even if they weren't physical about it.
  • Family relationships resolve their issues with little involvement, it felt good to wrap everything nicely but didn't have too much impact on anything besides their emotions at the moment.
  • The bad guys were defeated and while that felt satisfying the fact that we don't really see the punishment for any of them.
  • To finalize the series with very little to give it the final push the world order was changed and even of it needed to change I didn't feel like it had a lot of indications that it would happen before it did.

Overall this was a good series, not my favourite but still had some good points.

Almost over and I can't wait?!

  • The control of the governing bodies over our main cast is really on show here and that made me frustrated and mad as all hell. In that sense the writing of those parts was very good but it got to a point where I had to take breaks from the story for it.
  • We got a conclusion to one point of tension for our characters, it happened right at the end and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
  • The father is back on the scene, working on his redemption with varying degrees of success. Still suspicious but working on it.
  • Relationship wise we get a few steps forward in the feelings department (appreciated) and take a bit of a leap in the bedroom. The fact that our main character is being introduced to the BDSM life from zero experience and nobody really giving her much of an alternative feels a little off to me, she enjoys the practices but still we see her thoughts being less accepting, like her body and instincts are on board but her head still thinks she shouldn't. Again, feels off to me.

There is only one more book to go and i'll keep going just hope some of the less favorable points get some change.

Getting a bit better again.

  • We get to see more of the darkness of this world, we see that underground area they hide from the general public and their underhanded tactics to control everyone, as well as how far they are willing to go to keep their world as is.
  • The actual academy aspect is missing from this book as we focus on our relationships and the darkness that are being pulled into.
  • Also lost the actual antagonists, we have a few characters that were previously really big issues and their role in that capacity is diminished to mostly annoyance. This so it's introduced a bigger and badder unknown enemy that includes more than one person.
  • We see some more explicit scenes between our main character and her mates. Introducing the more kinky side of their interactions. This for me is pretty well written except for the rate of progression, like in the previous book when we first got some smutty scenes and it went from something not being considered to suddenly not only being acted upon but including some more intense things during the scenes. This suffered from a bit of the same, our main character never really considers if she wants something like it but when being introduced to it not only is she not warned she doesn't really even think about it just does as they would prefer.
  • Some of her family's secrets are revealed in this book, that kinda surprised me.
  • Relationships outside the romantic sense were not very prevalent but the few times they did appear they were well managed to feel important and mostly helpful.

Generally it was a good book that i didn't feel suffered from building up the next book too much.
