This is the story of twins Mokoya and Akeha. They are the children of the Protector. Owing a debt to the Grand Monastery, the Protector gives her twins as payment. We watch as the twins grow up and decide which side of the rebellion they will choose.
I have to say that this started off weird for me. The way pronouns were used was kind of confusing and it was making it difficult for me to focus on the story. Once I got to the part that explained that, I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed this. I usually feel like I need more from a novella, but I thought this was perfect. I loved the characters. Mokoya and Akeha are two of my new faves. I am going to start the second book tonight!
This is the second book in the series, so I'm not going to go into any details. I really enjoyed this. I'm still very surprised by how much I like this series. I've said it a million times, but I am not a romance fan at all. I love Laini Taylor's writing so much that the romance actually adds to the story rather than takes away from it like many other books.
I'm very excited to find out how the series ends.
This book was AMAZING!!
I had never heard of Ed McDonald until I saw Blackwing on Net Galley. It sounded pretty good, so I requested it. It ended up being one of my favorite books of all time. I love his writing style. The world he has created is fascinating. I can picture the Misery in my mind. I love the magic. I can picture the raven coming out of Rhyalt's arm. The writing makes everything seem so vivid in my imagination.
This series also has some of my most favorite characters. Ryhalt, Nenn, pretty much all of them.
I couldn't wait to read it. I also didn't want to read it because I knew it was the last book in the series. I had to find out what happened though, so I devoured it. I LOVED this book so much.
If you read fantasy, you have to read this series.
I'm not quite sure what I thought of this one. I liked it. I thought it was strange. I felt like it went on a little too long. I think my favorite thing about this was the characters.
This has been on my tbr for a long time. I'm glad I finally read it, but I'm also glad it is a standalone.
Obviously I had mixed feelings on this one.
This was an interesting read. I enjoyed the world created here.
I didn't like the MC at first, but he grew on me and I ended up really liking him and rooting for him.
He's a telepath working with the police to solve crimes. Especially ones that involve Mindspace. He can delve into criminal minds and get the answers the police can't.
At first I thought he was whiny. He whined about losing his career with The Guild because of addiction. But, when I read about his past and how he ended up that way, my opinion of him totally changed. I say he because we don't get his name until the end. I thought that was interesting.
I plan to continue the series.
This one was difficult to rate. I liked the story, but I did not like one of the main characters. Brysen is a whiny dumbass. I would have given this a higher rating if I liked him. His character took away from the story because of how irritating his decisions were.
I switched back and forth between the audiobook and physical copy for this one. I also did not care for the male narrator. The female narrator was alright though.
Overall, the story itself was interesting enough that I will read the next one. I just hope there's more Kylee and less Brysen. I really liked her character.
I loved it!! This series continues to be one of my favorites.
Things have been going great for October. That can't last though, we are talking about October.
Toby has had an issue with goblin fruit forever. It is addictive and deadly. Especially to changelings.
Changelings have been reported missing.
When they find the body of a changeling dead from goblin fruit, Toby decides it's time to ask the Queen to clean up her kingdom. The result: exile. Now she has three days to figure out a way to remain in the kingdom.
This series is amazing. If you like the fae, check it out.
It's been awhile since I read one of these books. I loved it!! I should just binge read them, but it's also like finding the series all over again if I space them out. These are some of my favorite characters of all time. And, I seem to find a new character to love in each book. I also love the world. I think it's interesting the way they go between magic and tech.
Sooooo good!
Nastya and her family are living in exile. The former royal family now live in squalor, guarded by Bolshevics. Spell casters are being hunted.
This book sounds great if that was what it was mainly about. Unfortunately, this book is way too sappy. The romance, and the goodness of the Romanovs was just too much for me.
If you like characters that are good and pure, and vomit-inducing romance, this book is for you. I will stick to grimdark!!
I received a copy from Net Galley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This one was really hard for me to rate. I read fantasy, and this is out of my wheel house. Just because it has magic in the name, and some spells are used, I still would not classify this as fantasy. In my opinion, it is more of a thriller. That being said, this book was not for me. I am rating it 3 stars because I don't think the writing is bad, it just isn't my cup of tea.
I would recommend it to people that read thrillers.
I received an ARC from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Another amazing addition to this series!
I can't say enough good things about this book and the entire series. The world is so great, the writing is phenomenal, and these characters just suck you in from the start. I thought I would lose interest after the series left Lakeside, but, Anne Bishop has created a whole new set of characters for me to love in Bennett.
Anyone who likes fantasy, especially urban fantasy should check out this series.
This is a fun audiobook. I love Harry Potter and Andrew Lincoln, so this was great. I enjoyed hearing about all the teams throughout Quidditch history, and Victor Krum's journey. I really enjoyed listening to “Ginny Potter” as the commentator for the finals. All of the narrators are great in this one.
This is a fast-paced YA fantasy. Very quick read.
Ness is a rare female werewolf. Because she is a female, she was never allowed into the pack. Ness and her mother were exiled from the pack years ago after her father was killed. They left Colorado and never looked back.
When her mother dies, her relatives come to take her back to Colorado. She has no choice because she is seventeen. She will only have to deal with them for a few months and she can leave on her birthday.
But, when she gets to Colorado, she finds out that Liam Kolane will be the next Alpha unless someone goes against him and wins. She has very good reasons to hate the Kolane's. She just might have to stay here and fight him.
I enjoyed this book. It has great characters. Ness is my favorite. Gotta love a female that will fight just because everyone says she'll fail. Lots of pack politics and drama going on as well. Very quick read. If you like YA fantasy, give this one a try.
I received a copy from Net Galley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4 Stars for the book, maybe 3 stars for the audiobook.
I thought this was an entertaining read. I liked the writing style. I would recommend this to urban fantasy readers.
I wasn't sure of my rating because even though I enjoyed the parts that I read, the parts that I listened to were not good. I didn't like this narrator at all. The voice she used for Maddie made me dislike her character. I finally stopped listening to it and read the rest. Much better.
This was the first book that I have read by this author. I will definitely check out more of his work.
I received a copy from Net Galley.
This is one of my all time favorites. I LOVE this series! I love the character development, especially Nona's. The magic is amazing, and the world is quite interesting. I am so sad that this series is done! I have loved watching Nona's journey from cage to Cage.
I recommend this to anyone that can read. It is that amazing.
I received a copy from Net Galley and have also purchased a physical copy.
