This was a very fitting conclusion to an incredible trilogy. I absolutely love Max Quick. As the author knows, I refer to Max as my homie all the time. I've listened/read the first and second books in the trilogy multiple times. It's rare for me to find a trilogy that keeps the momentum up across all three books. Mark has done it. I can truly say this last book is just as good as the first. I would say more but this is too good to spoil. But I will conclude my review by saying my mind was blown many, many times. There were plenty of moments when my eyes bugged out and shouting out loud got good. I don't think I need to say this, but I highly recommend this book and the entire trilogy.
I'm really torn. I love The Mortal Instruments, but I think it should've stayed a trilogy. It just didn't grab me like the others and the narration was terrible. Narration can make or break a book. For example, I learned Simon is British. The only problem about that is he isn't. It kept pulling me out of the story for the first couple of hours. I know most people seem to think Molly was worse, I don't agree. I don't think the story sucked overall. But I don't think it was as tight as the first three.
I have devoured this series and I really it. However, this last book is utter crap. I'm giving two stars because I think the narration is what truly saves this book. Only one day has passed and everyone has lost their damn minds? I can understand people wanting to do their own thing after time has gone by. However, it's only been one day!!! You're really going to turn on the man who saved you just one day earlier? I have other issues with this book that aren't worth writing, so I'll just leave you with the above.
This is just as good as the first!!! I loved the new characters! Gio is a trip. He's totally laugh out loud funny. I really love where this series is headed. It's all very ominous and that's fantastic. I wish Lilith was in the story more along with Theresa! Theresa is awesome!!!! She's the best part of this book and she's not even in it very long. I would love to see Gio and Theresa make a reappearance in this series.
I bought my copy from Robot Trading Co. and it's full of glaring errors. I hope they get fixed soon for future buyers.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually liked Emily in this book. I'm very shocked. Now there are still plenty of moments where she's stupid, but now we have reasons for her stupidity. If I had gone through the trials she's been through I might be an idiot too. I'm glad I stuck with the series. If I had stopped after two or three I'd be missing out on an awesome series.
A lot more happen in this book than in the first. I enjoyed it just as much. But I hated Emily even more. Now she's just downright reckless! Again I wanted Chev and Kyle to stop going after her. It's one thing to mess up your own life, but when your actions will have a direct impact on someone else and you do them anyway that's just plain selfish! I feel like this series would be much better without her.
This is a good story. It was good enough to get me to commit to the next in the series. I got this book free on Smashwords, but I would've paid for it. I like the liberties Nielsen has taken with the Vampires. I really do not like Emily. She is so stupid and annoying. I can't tell you how many times I kept telling Chev and Kyle to just let her die. So even though I don't like Emily doesn't mean this book is terrible. It's really not. It's average and there's nothing wrong with that. Not every book is going to be spectacular and I'm OK with that.
With that said, this isn't a slush pile book. It's formatted well. I, for one, really appreciate it. You can tell the author put real effort into making this book as professional as she could. I truly hate badly formatted, error-ridden ebooks.
This was fantastic! It has all of the wonderful things that makes a Mark Jeffrey book a Mark Jeffery book. But again I hate novellas. It just seems like as soon as you are in the midst of the good stuff it's over!!! I hate that!!! But seriously, this is a fun read. It's fast paced but not whiplash inducing. I'm not a steampunk expert. In fact this is really the first book I've read devoted to the subject. I have read other books where steampunk has made brief appearances. I didn't always completely understand all of the tech in this book. Maybe this is because I don't really know steampunk. If there's a sequel I hope Mark will be able to describe the tech in greater detail. I really need those of you who read this review to read this book. It's really good! And those of you who've read Max Quick or Armand Ptolemy and the Golden Aleph should really read this!!!! I truly need there to be a sequel! Do you hear me Mark?!?
Side note: I do plan on using “Pneumanet salon” in everyday conversation and laugh my ass off when people are confused. If you want to know what “Pneumanet salon” means I suggest you buy this book ASAP!!!!
Mark warned me this book was way different. He didn't lie. But he also said he thought I'd like it. He wasn't wrong. I really liked the conspiracy theories. There never came a time when I felt like any of them had jumped the shark. Don't get me wrong, they are crazy but they are walk the plausibility tightrope well. Well that said, there wasn't enough depth for me. I like Mark's style because he gets very intricate with his stories. I didn't get enough of that in APatGA. I would love a sequel. Or maybe some different adventures with Armand particularly with a younger Lucy. I loved Mark's voice for Lucy's gentleman caller. It cracked me up!
Cheryl brought the heat with plenty of twists and turns to go around in the second installment of the Eternal War series. She is still our wonderful yet totally messed up in the head heroine. She may even be a little crazier than in the first book. All the characters we've come to know and love are back so some have a bigger role than others. Even though we are talking about vampires it still felt plausible to me. I know that probably sounds silly, but that's how I feel. I'm so happy Westendarp didn't fall into the sophomore slump. I can not wait for the next in the series!
J.C. really brought the heat with this book! It was wonderful! I enjoyed it emmensly. I know J.C. was worried about a certain segment in Knight, she needn't have worried. She executed it beautifully. There are many sweet moments in this. But there were some moments that made my yell out loud from shock! I CAN NOT wait for War. I need it like now!!!! Allie's War is definitely one of my most favorite series and not just among indie published books!
Severed was a fitting conclusion to the Cloud Prophet trilogy. I liked Reychel's character. Over the course of the trilogy she had a lot of personal growth to do and she did so admirably. Megg Jensen is an indie author I will keep my eye on. I can't wait for the last book of the Swarm trilogy to be published so I can read the entire trilogy back to back to back.
