When I looked at this like a Greek work of liturature it was a fun read. Just on its own through the main characters are too much. He is overly possesive, she is ‘independent' but quickly falls for her kidnapper (felt a little Stockholm syndrome to me). The world building was fun and was just enough to pull me past the winney main characters.
I enjoyed this quick easy read. It was short and jam packed full of useful advice. There were some platitudes, but there were also many practical suggestions on how to improve your personal creative process. I respect advice more wrhen the author acknowledges that people are different and not ago the advice will apply to everyone. Kleon did just that. Not everything he suggested would work for me, but there were enough good nuggets for 5 stars.
The Bosch series has been an amazing journey so far. Connelly managed to keep the series relevant over a huge period. This most recent book in the series was great. It had a strong mystery with enough twist to keep you in your toes, but still remained grounded. Like the books before it I got to know my city much better than I do by just living here. Bosch is a wonderful character with many flaws, but an amazingly open mind. The way Connelly deals with race, gender, and lgbt are with open mindedness from his main character and truth of the current reality with other caharacter.
I am sad to have reached the current end of the series I have binged over the last year. I look forward to the next book when it is published.
With not a little irony I have Pres Orange to thank for reading this. It was an easy and fluid read. The writting felt much more contemporary than other things I have read from the same time period. His insights were incredible. It was easy to see how his theories applied to other dark times in history. We need to remember, so we do not repeate.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I found the setting and the atmosphere of the book intriguing. Having been to India and seeing some of the old Palaces/forts this visuals were even more amazing.
The characters on the other hand were less likable. They weren't even really someone I wanted to hate. The main characters motivations seemed like a moving target (wealth and power, love, etc). It also ended very unsatisfying. I found this entertaining, but will probably not read anything else by this author.
I watched the movie based on the book a thousand times as a child (The Secret of NIMH). The book was similar in many ways and very different in others.
The book was missing the action sequences and the magic that was in the movie. There was no magic necklace or last minute knife throws to save a life.
What the book did have was more humanity. The hopes and loves and tragedy of their lives. The book was moving and thought provoking.
I am so glad I read it.
