Gratuitous just for it's own sake in ways that don't matter to the story. Also if I hear the word cow one more time not referring to a bovine...

In liked it quite a bit and almost gave it a 4, but the amount of POV chances too me out of the novel several times, so 3.

Great crime and Kung Fu novel set to a backdrop of a fantasy Japan with magic driven by the powers of Jade

Fun to read again after playing D&D more regularly.

Was a satisfying conclusion to the much loved Iron Druid Chronicles.

Read it in one sitting. Nnedi brings you into her world with smells and textures. The story was simple but interesting, I look forward to reading the next in the series.

Funny and extremely insightful into the process of creating a story. Did I mention, very funny!

When I looked at this like a Greek work of liturature it was a fun read. Just on its own through the main characters are too much. He is overly possesive, she is ‘independent' but quickly falls for her kidnapper (felt a little Stockholm syndrome to me). The world building was fun and was just enough to pull me past the winney main characters.

This is a great start to a new series. This has everything that I loved about the Bosch series with a new younger protagonist. As a female reader I am very happy with how well Ballard is written, she is complex and compelling. Looking forward to the best one!

I enjoyed this quick easy read. It was short and jam packed full of useful advice. There were some platitudes, but there were also many practical suggestions on how to improve your personal creative process. I respect advice more wrhen the author acknowledges that people are different and not ago the advice will apply to everyone. Kleon did just that. Not everything he suggested would work for me, but there were enough good nuggets for 5 stars.

Read most of this as it came out, but there was something wonderful about reading it all together. There was also some fun new stories.

I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would. It was a very hard read fire me as a mother of a a small child myself. The writing from the mother's POV was my favorite. I am not sure how the series will work, or if I will read more. Clemo was annoying and he is the series focus.

The main character was too petulant to be likable.

The Bosch series has been an amazing journey so far. Connelly managed to keep the series relevant over a huge period. This most recent book in the series was great. It had a strong mystery with enough twist to keep you in your toes, but still remained grounded. Like the books before it I got to know my city much better than I do by just living here. Bosch is a wonderful character with many flaws, but an amazingly open mind. The way Connelly deals with race, gender, and lgbt are with open mindedness from his main character and truth of the current reality with other caharacter.
I am sad to have reached the current end of the series I have binged over the last year. I look forward to the next book when it is published.

I love this series. Such a well developed world and system. It was interesting to go to a new place in the world, but it did make it a little hard to picture Tri-cities as such an important center for everything. Fun and funny as always with Mrs. Briggs werewolf books.

With not a little irony I have Pres Orange to thank for reading this. It was an easy and fluid read. The writting felt much more contemporary than other things I have read from the same time period. His insights were incredible. It was easy to see how his theories applied to other dark times in history. We need to remember, so we do not repeate.

These are definitely the poems my cats would write. Reading a couple of poems a night to savour them. So funny.

Wow there was some crazy stuff in this book!

I have mixed feelings about this book. I found the setting and the atmosphere of the book intriguing. Having been to India and seeing some of the old Palaces/forts this visuals were even more amazing.
The characters on the other hand were less likable. They weren't even really someone I wanted to hate. The main characters motivations seemed like a moving target (wealth and power, love, etc). It also ended very unsatisfying. I found this entertaining, but will probably not read anything else by this author.

Felt like a short story that was way too long. Still just a novella, but I shouldn't have been. There were details added in that were confusing and added nothing to the overall story.

Would have been a great short story.

I was confused, bored, or annoyed through most of the book. The world building was interesting though. This suffered from extreme first book-itus.

I really enjoyed the story and its conclusion.

That being said I listened to this as an audio book (as I have with a couple other in this series) and it was horrible. The reading did improve as the book wen ton, but durring the first half of the book the narration was jarring at best.

I watched the movie based on the book a thousand times as a child (The Secret of NIMH). The book was similar in many ways and very different in others.
The book was missing the action sequences and the magic that was in the movie. There was no magic necklace or last minute knife throws to save a life.
What the book did have was more humanity. The hopes and loves and tragedy of their lives. The book was moving and thought provoking.
I am so glad I read it.
