I don't really understand the hype with Colleen Hoover books. I own two books in German written by her but I haven't read them yet and I owned them for at least five years or more but never touched them.
Honestly, I don't like the fact that in each book something sexually happens like can she write the book in which the characters don't have sex ? I know that it's a part of something romantic that's what people do but come on. You can also write a pretty good romantic story without a sexual part in it.
Maybe that's the reason why I don't like her books and don't want to read although they are very popular and people love her books but I just don't love a single book of her and I might just get rid of the ones I already own because I probably never touched them after reading this one.
The whole storyline about Layla and Leeds could have been a pretty good plot, but just after reading the first chapter, I knew that this book is just not meant for me and therefore I give it two stars because the storyline is great, but not written by Colleen Hoover.
Now after reading it I have a few things to say.
1. I noticed very often that specific words and sentences are being repeated all the time especially after the bones were found the main character always asked herself why the bones showed up now etc.
2. The actual plot was very short and the rest of the book is stretched and filled with things that in my opinion don't really belong to the actual plot, therefore it was hard for me to follow the plot when suddenly you read about something that doesn't even makes sense to the actual plot and leads to a totally different direction.
3. Sometimes I did had a hard time reading a chapter because I just wasn't feeling it and knew that I would read about stuff that doesn't belong to the actual plot (the bones being found, police etc) because the main character was talking about other things not related to the plot or simply repeating stuff she already said like ten times before.
My opinion:
Although the plot sounds great and the cover looks stunning too, the actual book wasn‘t that good. As I already said chapters filled with non related plot content, the main character repeating herself or saying the same things all over again and also only a little focus on the main plot and description of the book itself made it hard for me to read this. I was very hyped at the start and couldn't wait to read this but after like reading 42% of the book I noticed that it wasn't a book meant for me and I actually started to hate it here and there - BUT, I might start a second book by the author. Just because this one was bad in my opinion doesn't mean others are bad too by the same author
Great book but there's more to the story.
When I started reading this book I wasn´t really feeling it at first because the storyline was pretty lame. Boy and girl like each other first, become friends and then without any reason they're enemies - until they become lovers at the end.
But I have to say that after still continuing the story I started to like it and wasn't able to stop reading once I started. The end was a bit too fast but overall a pretty good book, definitely have to check out the second part soon
(scheduled for February 04, 2023 read December 25, 2023)
I have seen the movie in early 2023 because it was on Netflix and Mark Wahlberg is in it, so I had to watch it. I then noticed that there is book which seems to be the same as the movie, but later I noticed that it belongs to a series with over 40 books so sadly I didn't really understand this one - except that I had seen the movie before and knew what it was about.
The book is different from the movie and follows a different storyline but can be read when you need something different between other books you currently read.
I wouldn't consider this as a favorite but I think in order to understand the story you need to read the whole series starting with book one - maybe I will do in the future but as of now I'm not interested into reading this series because it's not really my genre I read in and I have other books I want to read before I start a huge series again.
This book is a must read for fans of the Netflix series!
If you have already seen the Netflix series then you should read this book because it follows along the exact episodes of the series in the POV of each character.
I know a lot of people don't like this book because it is literally a written version of the Netflix series, but you do find out a few more details about each character and also a little bit of a background story too.
16 months - 16 books
I´m finally done reading all of the Pretty Little Liars books when it comes to the main series.
I´m glad I'm done with it, since there were some books that weren't that good and pretty hard to finish, but after finishing all of them, I'm glad that there's an end to this story and everyone is safe now or behind bars.
The ending could have been different from what Sara Shepard wrote here, but it's totally fine to me that she wrote this instead.
Now, all I have to do is read two more books, the stand-alone and in-between ones and listen to the audiobook by audible to be really be done with this series.
Would I read it again?
Sure, why not. It´s a cool series and as you can see it took me pretty long to read it. Reading only one book per months makes it happen that you can enjoy the series longer than it would usually take.
Would I recommend it?
Yes, totally! For fans of the Tv series and everyone who's curious, read it!
Title: Castaways
Author: Jessika Fleck
Rating: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5 stars)
As an avid reader, I recently delved into Jessika Fleck's “Castaways,” and my experience was a mixed bag that left me with conflicting emotions. While the novel possesses some commendable aspects, it unfortunately falls short in certain areas, leading me to a rather lukewarm overall impression.
One of the novel's strengths lies in its imaginative and intriguing premise. The concept of a group of individuals finding themselves stranded on a mysterious island has the potential for rich character development and a gripping narrative. Fleck successfully builds an aura of suspense and curiosity, keeping readers hooked as they anticipate the unfolding mysteries.
However, where “Castaways” falters significantly is in the execution of its characters and their relationships. The protagonist's development feels rushed and lacks the depth needed to forge a genuine connection with the reader. Character interactions, meant to be the emotional core of the story, often come across as forced and contrived, hindering the establishment of authentic relationships within the group.
The pacing of the plot is another area that left me wanting more. At times, the narrative feels disjointed, and critical events unfold without the necessary build-up or explanation. This erratic pacing detracts from the overall cohesiveness of the story, leaving gaps in understanding that could have added layers of complexity to the plot.
On a positive note, Fleck's writing style is engaging, with vivid descriptions that bring the island setting to life. The atmospheric details contribute to a sense of immersion, enhancing the reader's ability to visualize the characters' surroundings and experiences.
In conclusion, “Castaways” is a novel that teeters on the edge of greatness but ultimately fails to deliver a fully satisfying reading experience. While the imaginative premise and engaging writing style are praiseworthy, the underdeveloped characters and uneven pacing detract from the overall impact of the story. For readers who appreciate a good concept and atmospheric writing, “Castaways” might offer some enjoyment, but those seeking a more immersive and well-rounded narrative may find themselves yearning for more depth and coherence.
