Wow, that was bad! How can this be so much worse than the author's debut???

After really bouncing off the author's debut (YA), I am so happy that this one hit the mark. Eerie, mysterious, atmospheric - it was everything I had hoped it would be, and this was the perfect time to read it. If you're looking for something a bit spooky with fairy tale vibes, this is it!

What a soap opera, including caricature villains. Very disappointed. I had such high hopes. :(

3.5 stars

The writing is 2.5 at best, but my enjoyment makes it more like 5 stars. Wow, did I have fun with this, despite all its flaws. Give me more, please!

DNF. I'm bored with Miss Perfect and Mr Sensitive.

A rather indifferent 2.5 stars.

DNF... should I start caring about these characters at some point? There is nothing interesting here, and my time is precious. So let's DNF and move on to greener pastures.

Okay, if they keep getting better, I might end up as a fan of this series, after all.

Damn, this was good!

Yeah, this is firmly YA, no matter what it says. The story beats, the tropes, the freaking love triangle... but also firmly 3 stars.

One of the weaker ones. There's veeeeery little plot, but at least Cora was a bit more likeable than usual. Here's hoping the next instalment will be another hit.

This was great!

2.5 stars.
I was told there would be plot twists, but everything was pretty obvious and straightforward from the start. Except for one minor twist at the end, and that didn't really save the book from its very slow middle part. It was okay, I guess.

Good idea, really bad execution. :(

So here's an unexpected 5 star read. I'd like more of those, please. :)

Aaaand here I am, crying again because of an Alix Harrow story.

Started out as a 5 star read, ended up around something like 3.5 stars.

The coziest of fantasies. Give me more of that any time!

DNF because at one third this book is still unreadable, has no plot, nor a single fleshed-out character and the world building is so nonexistent that I have no clue whether magic is commonplace or not.

Reading a few spoilery reviews tells me I'm not missing anything, so a very rare DNF it is.

Plotless and pretentious.
