Has one of your best friend's ever turn into an uncontrollable were-wolf so you have to team up with other were-wolf hunters to kill him? That's this! If I wasn't waiting for the next Afterlife with Archie I think I would be more excited about this. Jughead is one of the main characters with a huge appetite, so it makes sense for him to be a monster...but for him to be a monster again? I think I would have rather seen Reggie take on this roll. If he's not a big enough name, maybe share the spotlight with his rival Archie?
Anyway, I still really like these horror Archie series books a TON! The art in this is really nice and dark. ~Ashley
Once again can I say how much I love Ms.Marvel? I LOVE HER! [ she meets Captain Marvel in this volume and it is everything I wanted! (hide spoiler)] ~Ashley
This plot has a lot of potential to be something that could be really interesting but kinda falls all over itself. I'll give it a 2 star for story plus a star for the artwork. I thought the plot felt similar to hush in the since that a man from his past is stalking him for YEARS (and somehow batdad never picked up on it? I find that hard to believe knowing nothing about his Raptor past or abilities..I don't believe for a second he is better than Batman) Anyway, Nightwing is still a charming cutie but I doesn't shine through a lot of the time. He just kinda feel like an idiot in this one being trained by Batman I expect him not to instantly feel trusting of a bounty hunter type character and not to get beaten every time he tries to fight. He is still easily his own character but I'm tired of these tricks he obviously shouldn't be falling for. Raptor could have been a really good frienemy type character, Like a character that is just as charming and cocky as he is but plays by his own rules. A reoccurring character that Nightwing could have been conflicted about bringing to justice or Having deeper discussions of what justice is about. Maybe still make him a from the circus but from a rival troupe...how fun would that be? I feel they missed a good opportunity.
So, the plot was kinda meh...while trying the slowly get the pieces together I had a lot of time to think about the characters. The things I really like about Nightwing was him being a safety net for others (I've read this a few times myself because there's fan of Nightwing online that have talked about this) and the fact that Batman jumped and not fell to escape because he knew Dick would catch him. <3 ~Ashley
This is a very charming book that will shatter your expectations of a princess in pink. I particularly liked seeing all of the diverse princesses from different lands and their respected region mounts. Great book for kids who are just starting to work their way into junior level material. ~Ashley
This is still super charming, I wish there was more character development but we did get a little world development in this vol. about how their fathers, our main dragon girl and pirate girl( I can not remember names very well) are enemies, and wolf clans. These volumes are pretty fun and a breeze to get through. I recommend these if you like female protagonists, D&D type stories, or looking for a different take on princesses. ~Ashley
So this feels like a mixture of The BoxTrolls (Movie) and with an art style that reminds me of Ben 10 (TV series) but it is entirely its own thing! This is pretty good for one volume. I think the villian, who I fan named pied piper, has a cool power of song that controls the mice (a gang of small children) and has them under mind control while he leads them to his lair to take their souls to get feathers? At least, I think. Wasn't 100% clear on magic stuff and he was really short lived. This gives a strong hint that it will continue and I would read the next volume if it did. Really good start I think Junior readers would really like this. ~Ashley
So I thought I would just start this book before I went to bed and read the first section...nope! I was hooked instantly and read the whole book! I can not even begin to explain how much I loved the art work in this book, I especially love it when he takes an entire page just for a single illustration which is filled with feelings and really gorgeous work. There is effort and a ton of love and care put into this book. I especially love the blanket quilt type patterns and designs that are through this book and is great symbolism for what that time in his life has given him.
The story is my favorite type of tropes where it's really well illustrated, coming of age stories with a road trip, during summer time...only this time it was WINTER! Wow, that's a first! Living in a similar area I know how magical, clean, and silently beautiful a blanket of snow can be. I really enjoyed the story and illustrations and if you liked this story you may enjoy This One Summer ~Ashley
Follow a cat's adventure outside as you try to spot him in the crowded places. This is a search and find type story with detailed illustrations ~Ashley
This is a really fun book the illustrations remind me of some of the illustrations from the ARCHIE Sonic the Hedgehog comic series, which is so unique and enjoyable. I particularly love the water color illustrations in this book.
Don't expect any more details for the plot of the show. These are just fun Steven adventures that don't have any hint about the diamond authority or the mystery that surrounds the crystal gems. If you need a break from the emotional roller coaster that can be Steven universe (the T.V. Show) then this book is a delightful adventure! ~Ashley
I like the idea of complicated things explained simply without any jargon. That's what I expect more of the book to be like but you don't learn any actual names of anything. It is simply meant to be a silly book with nice diagrams.
Looking through this book is good for a laugh.
I'm learning about personal finance and thought this was a really great starting book. It's based off this index card (that went viral, I apparently missed it lol) that everything you really need to know about personal finance can fit on an index card. They go through the card in more depth in the book. I personally really love the chapters about insurance and fiduciaries. I learned quite a bit from this book and it is really well paced and is not confusing to understand. ~Ashley
This comic series has quickly become one of my absolute favorites and I often recommend them at the library. I can describe this series as Romeo and Joliet like space opera, in other words a masterpiece. The world building is incredible. The world's creatures, planets, and history are nicely paced so you piece together the world and plot at a nice rate and the character design is fascinating and creative.
Volume one is available at our library in the ADULT graphic novel section for its mature content. ~Ashley
This is a very charming book about what happens when your older sister starts to grow up and like different things and there is a gap between you age differences that starts to affect a relationship. But you can never really break the bond of a sisterhood. This book has some really cute illustrations and has subject matter that I'm sure will connect with a lot of readers. I would recommend this book to children who have older siblings especially. ~Ashley
This story takes place 1942, after the attack on Pearl Harbor, where Japanese-Americans were being moved to internment camps. This story is about a girl named Manami having to move and leave her dog behind and her adjustment to the life in the prison camp.
This story was heartbreaking, her making paper wishes and drawings to try to get her dog back. Manami is very sensitive and you're experiencing the camp through her thoughts. The life in the prison camp was horrible. Everything was taken from them, except what they could carry in suitcases. She has a strong bond with her family and that plays a big part in this book. When they have everything taken they hold each other closer and talk about home often. They remain hopeful. Be sure to read the author's notes at the end for more information about this time and the events that occurred.
This is a J-book and would be a great choice for projects or anyone who likes historical fiction. ~Ashley
If Cats the musical was a graphic novel it would be this...
This graphic novel seems more like a gimmick type gift to give to a friend that likes cats than a serious series. It has poor characters, plot holes (like where did Raven man come from? Why should I care? ok, now there is a bat-cat VAMPIRE man? Why are half-cats both human and cats? Shouldn't cats be called half-human and humans be half-cats?), and VERY clumsy story telling. This isn't very good but I can see where someone could find it amusing and the art work is nice and obviously someone took some time and effort to draw it out. ~Ashley
All I knew about Ruth Bader Ginsburg is that she is a BOSS and after reading this I can see why! She has faced incredible odds against her and has made incredible strides for equality. This was a short book but I enjoyed reading about her childhood, what the society norm was when she was growing up, what she did for her education, family, and career. She is an inspiration! This book was short but covered and touched on a lot of information really well. There is more information of her on the back of the book along with a list of references used to write the book. The illustrations are really amazing and I would love it if there was a poster I could buy. ~Ashley
I took an 8 week course in ASL and have continued to use it since. I can not express enough what an amazing job representing deaf culture and in general the book is really nicely diverse. Whitney Gardner has some nice experience with the deaf community as well. You can read an interview with her here.
Even though this is a young adult and does have that high school type drama troupe I really didn't mind because Whitney managed to keep the whole book interesting and wrap up nicely in 300ish pages. I think a couple of issues are legitimate like what should be considered graffiti vs. art and what true friends should be. All in all, a very captivating read! I love that Julia's art is in the book and it makes a really big impact. Excellent book, I recommend! ~Ashley
I expected a lot more from this but this girl just ending up being boring yet strangely repeatable to me. This book is just a fast chill read and don't expect anything really to happen, just a slice of life.
One thing I like to do is make lists, I learned that I HATE reading other peoples lists. This book is FULL of lists and diary type writings that I honestly just skipped all of them. ~Ashley
One thing I strongly believe in is introducing and talking about death early, this middle grade book really touches nicely on that subject. My favorite theme in this book is about breathing...Her sister has trouble breathing, Our main character forgets to just breath and relax a little, and the ghosts miss breathing and love the feeling of wind. There was some very nice serious moments and I like Raina Telgemeier's style of realistic story telling with a bit of fantasy I think is a really nice fit for her and I hope she writes another one like this. In all of her books I think she always introduces subjects that need to be addressed in a very nice manner.
The water artwork in this book is amazing! I flipped through this a second time to enjoy the backgrounds like the sunset and the trees that slowly fade out in the background. I feel if you really love fantasy or play D&D you're really going to love this book like I did! It features classic situations you'd come across in a silly D&D game and make the adventurers out to be the jerks against poor monsters. I didn't really notice the adventurers also stole a woman?! Don't worry Goblin saves her in the end (I didn't see her the first time till the end so I was confused where she came from. I flipped back and she was on the cart! This book has a eye for some detail) Really awesome book! ~Ashley
This was a good book about getting ready for bedtime. A little hedgehog is curious to know how a little bear gets ready for bed, at the same time a little bear is reading about how a hedgehog gets ready for bed! This was a cute book with some winks to the reader. The Illustrations are especially cute! ~Ashley
Comics basically about every day life that kinda proves being what we usually picture as a perfectly functioning responsible adult being a myth. Her comics I particularly love are either about books or periods because they couldn't be more spot on hilarious! ~Ashley
I love the punk rock vibe this entire graphic novel gives off. The new Black Canary caught my attention after I saw her in Batgirl, Vol. 1: The Batgirl of Burnside The illustration is brilliant and inspiring, I only wished the writing was the same. The story seem to throw you in and then when you start piecing things together the plot jumps around. ~Ashley
This is a pretty funny book with a couple of gems of advice about dating. I think people out there with far more dating experience than I have would find this book really enjoyable. ~Ashley
