A memoir of a girl growing up in Turkey and working very hard to get to a university. I liked this because I learned quite a bit about another culture and it kept me turning the page. The ending is fine but when I read that the author now lives in Chicago I feel like we're missing out on a big part of this person's life. Perhaps she has/will write another book? ~Ashley

There are two reasons why I choose this book; The cover is absolutely beautiful and that it is a young adult western, which is a genre I haven't seen before. I took this book to Phoenix with me and I'm glad I did because the book's setting is in Phoenix!

I'm not sure if I thought this was a boring book or if it followed a western style of writing maybe? The book had an immediate revenge story to follow, then it kinda got really slow as our characters traveled. There was a couple of side adventures. Once you found out that the main character's father only told half-truths then there was a mystery element also included in the plot. I'm glad I kept reading till the end because I thought the end was really good, too bad it's such a slow pace to get to it.

I put this also in the historical fiction after reading the authors notes at the end of the book. Apparently, it's based of some western legends, an historical battle with the Apache, and it named dropped some historical people. She took her artistic liberties, but I thought that it was kinda cool getting to learn about some history. ~Ashley

This book has a series of short comics about history, literary characters, and superheros! I skipped a few I was not familiar with but the rest were quite humorous! My favorites are Lois lane and the postcard comics. I love Lois' get it done attitude and the super-oaf getting in her way. All the comic book related ones really made me laugh and are probably my favorites of the books. ~Ashley

I've heard so many good things about this series and I'm very glad that it lives up to the hype! Great story, great art, and a great character! It kinda even has a deadpool-ish feel to it and kinda makes fun of typical comic character troupes. Also be sure you have a magnifying glass because on the bottom of each page has some commentary that is really a good time! ~Ashley

This family really likes snakes and teaches a young girl how cool they can really be! This is a nicely illustrated book with some cool facts about snakes! If you don't like something maybe you could give it a chance and learn a few things about them and see if it changes your mind! Snakes are pretty cool! ~Ashley

I was expecting a little bit more from this story. I love stories about summer or summer camps and I wasn't sure quite what the story was and sometimes I mixed the characters up. I was really excited when they mentioned D&D because summertime is when I played most often.

If you like summer camp stories like I do you might like this great graphic novel Lumberjanes, Vol. 1: Beware the Kitten Holy ~Ashley

Below are previous thoughts - may re-read this again someday

A slice of life where there is a murderer, a cult, and parents are gone, sound interesting right? Nope, nothing is ever explained. I really like the artwork in this story but everything else I felt was extremely lacking. ~Ashley

A homemaker, housewife, and killer in the 1960's trying to balance work life and her home life. Pretty great illustrations and story that wraps it up rather nicely in one volume, I hope they continue this because it's great and they strongly hint at a volume 2! The art in this book is pretty amazing and the spoof art in the back is really fun! This book I would suggest for mature readers. ~Ashley

This trilogy has been a very unique journey and so much has happened to our beloved characters so quickly. I'm always surprised how much content I read with just a few pages being read. So much action! I am very happy with the end.

I never read this as a kid, so reading it as an adult I found really enjoyable and just a tad lengthy at times. I can understand why this book is such a classic, enjoyable read, nice characters, emotional ending ~ Seriously, I knew what Charlotte's fate was and I still was crying at her casual passing! This book really is a treasure and I recommend reading it! ~Ashley

I listened to this on audio book and sometimes it was a treat and sometimes it was a tad annoying. So, if you are not accustomed to Eddie Izzard I recommend listen to a bit of his stand-up before listening to this on audio book. This audio book is narrated by Eddie Izzard. Those who are familiar with Eddie Izzard I thought the opening of the audio book before it even started was very long and annoying because it was just him rambling...which is not a great place to start. Later when you get into his stories, he'll do extra foot notes and some tangents. It works pretty well and it feels genuine. This book is pretty good and I had fun with it. ~Ashley

This book is interesting to read back and forth between learning about two girls. We learn about Mary who lived at Thornhill through her diary pages, which are text. We learn about Ella through illustrations. I like doing these two mediums to tell this story gave it a really cool feeling while reading. This book is very suspenseful, I got chills in the illustration sections of the book. If you're looking for something sad, mysterious, and a bit sinister this is a great book to pick up!
I thought the opening of this book was really strong, you have a point of view of one person looking up at the house, where Ella is, and you have Ella looking down into Thornhill. It made me wonder immediately who is watching Ella, creepy! They talk about the Secret Garden several times through this book and It really gave the same vibes. Ella going over the wall into Thornhill's overgrown yard/garden. The Raven having a key to the secret room, similar to the robin, and Mary described as looking sickly like the main character in the secret garden. If they are references they are done very subtly and well. The ending to this book was also very strong, [
It didn't end where I thought it would and the continued pages we see a new person in the house. This changed my perspective on Mary, maybe still a victim but also perhaps a predator? A new mystery to think and discuss! (hide spoiler)] ~Ashley

This is a story about George, who knows she's a girl, and she wants to play the part of Charlotte in the school play Charlotte's Web. [ I expected it to end when the school play was over but it continued and some really feel good things happened! The mom is going to work on accepting her and she got to go to the zoo dressed completely as a girl. It was really great to read how happy it made her. (hide spoiler)] This book is a junior novel but will make a good quick read for older readers. This book gets a tad emotional but has a really great ending. ~Ashley

This book is meant to be read and used for 52 weeks. The idea of this book is to help improve your life, I myself have started a journal. I recommend you get this book at the library and flip through it to see if you would be interested in this book before you buy it. This book also has some helpful end pages and a source page. ~Ashley

Great book for junior readers. I think the art in this book is just good but I believe the message of this book is powerful and is what makes the book worth to read. I love the connection sunny makes with comic books and how she slowly starts to connect with her grandfather and his retirement home friends. It has a message that kids should be addressed to honestly, especially complicated situation with loved ones. I think we can all connect to this great story. ~Ashley

I really enjoy Mo Willems work and with this illustrator really made this story really charming. Nice story about to friends sharing their experiences to better themselves. Great book that I would recommend to patrons with kids that are in between easy reading and junior novels. ~Ashley

This graphic novel is very charming and the feeling reminds me of Gravity Falls and Adventure Time combined. I love that each character has a strong individual personality, the amazing diversity, and each lady-type has a talent and that they're all friends! There are a bunch of neat things in this book like how the manual looking the book is, badges, and the lumberjanes even have their own pledge! This book is a ton of fun and a little low on plot. I strongly recommend this graphic novel! ~Ashley

We did an audiobook on a trip. I feel asleep a few times and Tim caught me up, so really I kinda got the abridged version.

The audiobook was ok, If there is a newer updated one i'd rec. trying that.

A book about Jose Guadalupe Posada and his art work. I know about Catrina but that was it so it was cool to learn more about Catrina as a piece itself and his other works of art, poems that went with his Calaveras, and himself as an artist. Very cool book with some good information, a unique art style, and it has it's sources listed in the back. ~Ashley

What I liked about it - it's interesting to see the creative differences between this (first draft of her book) and [b:To Kill a Mockingbird 2657 To Kill a Mockingbird Harper Lee https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1553383690s/2657.jpg 3275794] her actual book. You can tell what her ideas, sense of community of this fictional town, additional characters, etc. If you're reading this in that respect or totally in a different au then this is maybe a 3***. It's pretty fascinating and getting to see this develop would make a great book conversation. What I fucking hated - Harper Lee (someone who prided their privacy) was taken advantage of in her old years so that someone out there could make quick money. It's fucking cold. The fact that they heavily advertised this as a sequel makes this a slap in the face especially.

This wasn't quite what I was expecting but still good. I was thinking this would be about her study of the haunted house and maybe I could pick up a few tips for my own seasonal haunting job, instead it's just a big study of fear and her personal experiences encountering them. She does cover Japanese Haunted Houses which was probably the best chapter because in my free time I watching things like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnnHW... and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FDSd.... So her experiences in Japan are probably the most interesting chapters to me. I think this would make a really fun audio book, I really hope it gets one! ~Ashley

Let's face it, I picked up this book because it is filled with stellar images from the Hubble. Some images take up full pages and there is even a center fold with the Andromeda galaxy! This book also has facts and history about the Hubble and the universe it has taken pictures of. Really a fantastic book, especially to those who are curious about space. I skimmed through the text and didn't get to read it completely. ~Ashle

Very nice story about listening to others and being polite. The fairies are friends with this little girl and they live in peace until a goblin king comes and ruins everything, is very rude, and even kidnaps the fairy queen! They tell the girl about him and she comes up with a plan. It is fair though, the fate is in goblin king's hands and all he has to do is be polite but will he? Nice story and good illustrations with beautiful colors! ~Ashley
