These are cute (especially the hedgehogs!) good for a skim and quick chuckle

This book gets 5 stars for pictures alone! absolutely stunning relics encrusted with jewels and gold! I never even knew these skeletons existed until I saw the authors book on the YouTube channel “Ask a Mortician” this is an excellent read too! I have learned so much about these precious relics. You can order this book at the Colona Public Library. ~Ashley

Some of my favorite stories are told without words just through beautiful art! This book has no words but I've spent a few minutes just studying what the pictures are conveying and the amazing detail that was put into each page. Absolutely a gorgeous adventure!

Rest in Power. 2020 - my early review from colona

I first learned about John Lewis on TV and I was browsing goodreads and saw his familiar name and sure enough it was him. What an amazing historical figure, fought for civil rights, was arrested several times, and became a congressman along with other achievements. I really hope these books find there way into history classes. His memoir was interesting the ink illustrations of black and white I found like reading a memory, I was totally engrossed reading his history, and l felt Inspired that I can fight and make a difference. In times like these especially you have to be kind to those around you, lend a helping hand (which can start in your community), and recognize your privilege. I like to think I make a difference by ordering and making sure I read diverse fiction. It's a small step but I think making sure there is representation for many people is important. After reading all of them it can also be a little depressing reading how many people died and how harshly people were treated. Continue the fight today, it is important and if you see racial or any injustice call it out and demand change. I can not really put into words how grateful and the respect I have for John Lewis. I highly recommend this powerful memoir with charming and amazing ink illustrations.

The top things I love most in this book is that the art is beautiful and really well done and that Anya feels like a believable young character struggling through school and having difficulties with herself image and such. I feel that her character and illustrations really seem to compliment each other well. She's worth reading about but the story is kinda predictable. This spooky read will be perfect in October

If you liked this but want something with a blast of color I recommend Nightlights

A really powerful piece of work done by Katie Green as she remembers her younger years and tackles her eating disorders and sexual assault. The illustrations are really great and she shows what her darkness/monster is by making it a scribble visually shows what her state of mind is like is a really great representation. If there were no scribbles to show her mind at work this piece I feel would be less powerful. I think getting all of this down on paper and putting so much work into it was really brave to put out and show to the world. I think a lot of people will be able to connect to this story, This could help people feel less alone and help other people understand what others are going through. ~Ashley

I think there are good pieces of advise in here, I especially liked the you don't have to do a-b-c route to get somewhere. You can go straight to a-c! I think learning this early on and learning there are often more options to choose from for yourself is a good way to start thinking. I'm learning more about personal finance right now so this wasn't exactly the book I was looking for but I thought it was a good read. ~Ashley

This book was awesome. This is a great read for anyone working in the Library field or someone who just enjoys going to their local library . I love how librarians describe their jobs and why Libraries are so important to everyone.

I remember this one the best out of the entire series. Had some nice story elements and I remember talking with Tim about this a little because it would be a perfect d&d adventure.

I love to read these out loud and laugh. My friend Shay introduced me to the blog originally and I've introduced a few other people too.

What an extraordinary young woman, an advocate for women's equal rights and the right for education! She will be a historic icon for sure, keep being curious and learning!
It's so important that we know her story, I recommend reading it. I learned so much more on affairs overseas and how that affected both countries, I learned more about her culture and what it was like for everyday people that were affected by conflict. I've learned so much from reading about her experience.
I highly recommend the audio book because that makes a heavier subject read like this go easier (for me at least) and to pronounce and learn words correctly. ~Ashley

The start of this book was really strong, each town has its own monster which is the town's pride and joy. They have tourism based off their monsters and the town is also protected by their monster from another monster. So they send a scientist go up to see why a town's monster hasn't been seen in years. I Love this set up and then the story kinda plateaus and the ending never really impressed me. ~Ashley

I really like a good premise for a re-telling, a deaf girl falls in love with the Piper and can not be hypnotized by his song. Sounds great! Unfortunately, the story was rather eh. The art however I thought was pretty good and portrayed scenes pretty well. I really wish this was maybe 3xs longer than it was so we can get a good connection between these two main characters and some more world building.

I wish this deaf character had more of the deaf accent when she spoke. She seemed more of hard of hearing spectrum, which is great, but it isn't portrayed well. I would have liked to see more signs between her grandmother and possibly the piper to communicate and have that “secret language” bond when other people seem to ignore her or worse. Honestly, I forgot this character was deaf more than half-way through when some exposition came along to remind me.

Anyway, it was an enjoyable enough read. Check this out for yourself! ~Ashley

This was an ok read. Out of all the books I've read from this author this one fell a little flat for me. Still a fast read if you're looking for one about siblings or a family road trip adventure! ~Ashley

I really good book for someone who is about to enter the career field, looking for what they want to do, and a few good tips for people who are currently working. It's mostly aimed for people looking and beginning their careers.
