So salacious and scandalous and juicy! I loved this book. This story of a private high school, Belmont, and the lives of the rich kids and the teachers. And one particular teacher, Teddy, who feels just a little jaded at not being part of the Belmont family because he didn't graduate from Belmont. He thinks he knows better than everyone else and what's best for his students. And he doesn't take kindly to the student's parents. He likes to see what he can do to correct people's behaviors. He just always thinks...It's for your own good.
What can I say at this point that I haven't said about Roz Nay? I just absolutely love her books!! Thrillers are my jam and Roz just kills them each and every time! (Pun intended).
In The Hunted we have another five star read. It was another page turner. I didn't ever get bogged down in the story. I didn't feel there was a slow part. The prologue just grips you and let's you know you're in for a wild, scary ride. Stevie's boyfriend Jacob is waking her up hurriedly to get her the F out for some reason and at the end of the prologue she says, “Is it Leo?” and in my mind I said, “who the fuck is Leo?!” And let me tell you, you find out quickly who Leo is! And how stalker-ish Leo is!
GREAT horror book! Let me say that I can't say what I want to say haha cause it would give something about the plot away and I don't want to do that! But, there's trigger warnings of abuse. Human monsters. They're the worst. They're the most scary. They're my favorite horror to read because they're so real and so scary! Jeremy has done it for sure with this one!
Harley has a boyfriend, Aiden, who loves to pull the nastiest scary practical jokes he can and keeps a list of who has the best practical jokes on each other and unfortunately the top five are all Aiden's. And Harley has suffered through each one of them. But now it's Harley's turn! For Aiden's birthday she has planned a great, scary practical joke on Aiden. But as she's hiding in his closet waiting to surprise him she sees and hears more than she bargained for from her boyfriend....or did she?
Great monster horror book. But there's two very distinct monsters the main character Mattie has to deal with. She's stuck, isolated on a snowy mountain and needs to escape both of these monsters with the help of some strangers who stumble upon the cabin she's kept in. I won't say any more!
I wanted a bit more closure at the end. Secretly hoping for a sequel...? But this was an emotional book. And the first 100 pages are very hard to read because of the abuse. Very hard to read.
Great book. I've only read this one and The Lost Boy so far from Henry but I have all her books and look forward to The Girl in Red next, I think!
Gosh this book had me captivated from page 1. It's not often I buy a book I want to read and then actually read it right away! It happened to work for this book.
Ethan Hawke can WRITE. Who knew?! Not me! He has written three other novels, but he hasn't written one in 20 years until A Bright Ray of Darkness.
Let's be clear - this book is SO autobiographical. I found myself stopping to google so many things about Ethan and saying, “Did this thing really happen to him?!” And yes it did a fair amount of times.
But more than that, and I'm sure there was probably something cathartic to him about writing this, he also focuses on his life on stage. Particularly doing Henry IV on Broadway and playing Hotspur. He goes into the head of the actor and what they feel. What they feel on stage and off stage and in rehearsals and it just filled me up as I am also an actor! Unfortunately not for Broadway, but still. I connected so hard with his actor feelings and even parts of what it's like to live your life while being an actor. I feel some of those things. And even all that aside, just to get a glimpse into his actor brain and how he feels and how he prepares and how he gets into character and into a scene. I was into it. As with googling his life, I found myself researching the play Henry IV because while I've done two Shakespeare shows I don't know squat about Shakespeare's history shows cause they seemed boring and inaccessible to me.
Ok, I'm done. I'm just rambling. I suck at reviews. It was fucking good and I fucking loved it, ok?!
No doubt in my mind that this book is 5 stars! What a journey! What a ride! I am already in serious book withdrawals and I just finished. I don't think I can accurately put my feelings into this review.
I have said MANY times and will continue to say, I don't know sometimes if a book just finds you at a right time or if it's entirely that it's just that good of a book. I think both. Books definitely hit you different depending on where and what you've just done or gone through. I think it also depends a lot on the genre and characters and writing. This genre is ME. Zoje's writing is SUPERB. And the characters are REAL. I felt every page. I was in it 100%. I read fast and with a purpose.
I don't even know what to say in regards to the plot. I don't want to give ANYTHING away, so I guess I can't say much! But it flowed beautifully. Highs and lows. Some funny moments, lots of heart pounding moments, and truthfully some soul searching and sad moments. Zoje put her heart into this one completely, her heart and her thoughts and I felt that. I felt that hard.
And let me say, not one part let me down. Built up perfectly and the ending was chef's kiss where sometimes an ending can be a big ‘ol fart noise.
I DID start reading this a mere two days after visiting the Grand Canyon and having a nice photo shoot of the book for Zoje at the Grand Canyon. I think that affected me. I loved seeing the Grand Canyon and I love natural wonders of the world. The ONLY thing that would have made the experience of reading this book any better would have been to be camping in the Canyon in the locations in the book while reading it. BUT...I am NOT a camper lol so that's a no go for me! I do love hiking but only for nice day trips.
DO go get this book on August 17th when it comes out! I know I will be securing a finished copy for my shelves and getting some as gifts for my family as well ❤️
I blazed through this graphic novel collection! Wow! It's actually also my first ever graphic novel. I just couldn't get into them but I own some horror ones that I've always wanted to read. I think I will be able to now that I've popped my graphic novel cherry with Basketful of Heads! What a fun read about a woman thrown into a horrific situation with her boyfriend being kidnapped by what turns out to be corrupt cops! Great stuff. I was into the characters and the story and the fun little twists at the end! And the illustrations are SO GOOD! Can't wait for more from Joe Hill's Hill House Comics!
I loved Gray as a person/character. I also loved Nick. And glad they ended up together. I DID figure it out tho. Loooong ago I thought she was pretending to be Tea but wasn't sure how she was pulling it off. Still seems a tad implausible, but I'll roll with the punches and suspend my disbelief! I enjoyed the whole book and the last half especially last 150 pages or so were very compelling! Solid 4 stars for me!
All along I was settled on three stars. It was a good book, entertaining enough, but it was slow and it was missing something. Maybe more Poirot? Get to the murder faster? Those things for sure. But then the end really picked up and I really enjoyed the way it ended. I didn't figure out who did it. She got me good. And as I think about it, it really was a very clever book. Four stars for me.
Good thriller
This is my second book by Lourey. Unspeakable Things was great so I immediately jumped on Bloodline, and it didn't disappoint! It was creepy and uncomfortable and totally engaging. It had a little too much of a Stepford Wives vibe to me that the middle part of the book was starting to turn me off, but I'm glad I stuck with it! The last 40% was fantastic! Definitely worth picking up and reading!
I absolutely loved this thriller. I just eat up thrillers like this! So many more twists than even I thought you could fit into a book! Loved the characters and the plot wasn't too contrived. The book had an epilogue that wrapped it up and YES I'm so happy about that! I love a good wrap up in a book! Love both of Lucy Foley's books I've read!
A Christmas Horror Miracle
Found this awesome collection of Christmas horror on Instagram and I'm glad I did! What a fun trip through some great Christmas horror shorts! The title short, Merry Fuckin'. Christmas, was the best! Such a good story. But they all really shined. My least favorite actually being the last two. Super glad I found this!
