This was a wonderful prequel to the Wildlander series. Unfortunately I already read the first two novels in the Wildlander saga so I knew that the Wildlander people would survive, so there wasn't much surprise in that.
Niomi wasn't bad of a character but I didn't completely connect with her like I do with the other characters in Jenycka's other novels.
Overall a pretty great prequel to a pretty unique series!
I don't know why but I pretty much gobble up every one of Viola's books. Kind of like my guilty pleasures, always come back to you authors.

Every time I reread a Viola Rivard book, I always love it just as much as the first time I read it. I don't know what it is about her writing, about her characters, about the story itself, but I always love her books. Viola Rivard is an auto buy author for me, I will read everything and anything she publishes.

Twylla is a girl who has only known orders all her life. She's never made one single choice that she feels is utterly her own. But when she is faced with the opportunity to make her own choice, will it be the right one?
Things are changing for Twylla. Not only is she getting a new, young guard from a rival kingdom, her title as Daunen is questioned, and Merek finally seems to be noticing her.
Twylla wasn't my favorite character to have as a main character. She relies on those around her way too much. The world building was all right but at times I had a hard time believing it. & when Twylla found out the whole truth of her circumstances, I wasn't at all surprised. I also really didn't like either of the love interests, both were extremely messed up. Lief pissed me off. Merek angered and frustrated me.
The only reason I gave this book as high a rating as I did was because the overall idea and story was pretty awesome. I will definitely pick up book 2 in this series when it comes out, hopefully I will like one of the love interests then.

This book was pretty predictable unfortunately. I knew almost everything that was going to happen before it happened. I like this series since it is exceptionally written better than Fifty Shades. I also didn't like Eva's decisions at all. If I were her I would've walked away from Gideon and NOT let him still use me as a good-fuck.

Kai lives a semi-normal life in the Labryinth with her adoptive brother, Reev. Well as normal as living in the slums can be, with no memory of who she was before her brother found her when she was 8, and to add to all that she harbors a magical secret. A magical secret she must keep hidden or risk being caught by king Ninu. Kai is able to keep her abilities hidden until a fateful day delivering mail she's attacked, uses her ability to save herself, & ends up stabbing her attacker. That whole event spirals and turns Kai's whole world upside down and sends her along with Avan to travel outside of Ninurta to save her brother.
Secrets are unraveled, truths are found, and new questions arise.
Nothing is as it seems in Ninurta.
I completely adored this book! As questions were answered in this book, new questions arose. Every time I think I know what is happening (or going to happen) the tables are turned and I'm left speechless.
Kai is such a sweet and courageous main character. I love how strong she was throughout this entire novel. Even when everything seemed at a loss, she refused to give up. She also didn't allow anybody to push her around or let people make her do what she didn't want to. Kai's relationship with Avan was adorable and I was rooting for them through the entirety of the book. & the ending of this book was so.. ugh! Need book 2 now! Gimmee Gimmee please!
There is literally nothing I'd like to see changed in this novel. Completely amazing!

The only thing I didn't like about this book was that Ava didn't really make smart choices..
But overall I quite enjoyed this installment in the Wildlanders series.
Jodah of course is still my favorite.. hehe. I like that this book goes in depth with the relationship between Killian and Daven, they're so adorable together.
I also liked that in the end Ava's dumb choices didn't ruin anything like I feared it would.
Warning: This book contains VERY mature scenes! Definitely for a reader who's 18 or older.

This prequel made me stop what I was doing and start book 1 of this series imediately after.

I actually really enjoyed this book. The whole idea of this infuriated me (in a good way).. I mean c'mon, buying people and treating them like property? Really? That's basically slavery.
I loved our main character Ella! She's so cute and sweet. She went through all the emotions she should've when having everything shes ever known not apply to her anymore.
All the characters in general were well thought out and complex in their own way. Every character was interesting, even when I hated them, I still wanted to know more about them.
The one thing I didn't like was the way the setting for the “slums”/poorer part of the city was described. It didn't really flow well with me. But, it was a fairly short scene, so it didn't really bother me.
Overall, great story! Hope to be able to read more soon!
