This is a collection of stories, some good, some not, some short... you get the idea.
I enjoyed them a lot, especially the bite-sized ones: The Merchant and the Alchemist Gate, about a Primer movie-style time machine, and the title-worthy Exhalation, about entropy.
The Lifecycle of Software Objects was long and boring, 2/5*, I suggest you skip it and come back after you've read others and just can't get enough. Or just skip it altogether to avoid a bad aftertaste.
I guess it's the book when I personally can say it's bridged that gap in “what is a person” for me. This theme was hammering on for all 4 books but somehow this one got under my skin nevertheless.
As in for the what's happened... It's a quest, duh. The hero and damsel and distress, as unorthodox as you could dare imagine, yet still very recognizable. There is even something “wtf is that tension, is it romantic? platonic? parental?” in the Murderbot's affection.
I devoured this book in a day... I know it's not long but this hasn't happened since I've read first Harry Potter back in school days. Not mind blowing but it's just flowing through you, I'd say a page turner if I weren't listening to audiobook version.
I'm torn between 4 and 5 stars but eh let's do 4.
Yeah like what did you expect me to write here at the end of the third trilogy?
New characters are fantastic and change really nice through the series. I've been explained everything (maybe except one small detail but even that could turn out to be a beginning of a hook of a next trilogy).
Anyhow.
Madness, the world is on fire, everything is fucked. 11\10
While this book as any other in the series have the build up and twists, it doesn't have this nice “I will introduce two-three different action groups and slowly bring them together” wibe.
I guess I just overhyped the book to myself, as I expected to have some grand finale to the series, while it's a lot more -ended.
The ‘main twist' was a bit disappointing, first time I felt like lazy writing.
The book is not bad, it's just a bit not my cup of tea, I like cunning and politics the most in the series, and battles the least, but obviously there are a lot of battles there.
Most interesting person was probably the Red Beck.
