I got this from the library and let it sit for awhile. I had high expectations and didn't want them shattered. Justin picked it up and was loving it and I still didn't pick it up. WHen he was about 200 pages in I finally did and it was awesome.
I honestly don't know how Brandon thinks up these really interesting ideas. I love the characters and the concept of the world and magic system. It feels fresh, as his generally do. It was a super page turner, which I expect from him these days. The plot twists were mostly great, but sometimes felt a little forced, so that's mostly why it got a four instead of a five. There were just points where I felt like I could picture him writing the outline for the book and thinking, “I'll really get ‘em with this one!” That made me feel meh.
But overall I loved it. Sometime I'll have to pick all of these books up in hardcover. I mean, I took a writing class from the guy. If I love his books this much, I should do him the decency of buying them one of these days.
