MMC was a big bearded trucker and not my type of guy. The daddy kink was also too much for me. DNF 37%
DNF 80%. I liked how possessive the male lead was and how he lied and manipulated to kill off a secondary potential male interest. But that was it.
A lot of CNC and safe word smut which wasn't my thing. And the plot was frustrating.
I could tell from the start the female lead withholding what she knew about the male lead's parents would be an issue so when it came along, it was just annoying.
And for the male lead to just believe a doctored video straight away without a bit of skeptics given everything he's seen in the mafia - no doubt people have lied and tried to trick him before, and treat the female lead so badly was unforgivable and unrealistic.
And the female lead gave so many reasonable explanations that should give him reason to doubt the video's authenticity as soon as he showed her the video as well.
I just couldn't keep reading anymore despite how close I am to the end
This book was actually unexpectedly so good after I found the last book meh. In the last book, I felt the FMC was weak though likeable enough. But this time, I really liked her character, she absolutely shined. And the chemistry between the MCs, the secret child plot, the faked death plot, possessive MMC who would kill for the FMC - it was all so good.
The only things that stopped this book from becoming five stars was the focus on the two college kids, their scenes were so unnecessary and it was clear the author was trying to set up their own books and I wasn't a fan of the plot about the Mc's child needing a kidney transplant.
I was also indifferent about all the different side characters like Angelo, Chiara, ice gods, Ren, Antonio.
I did really like this second book and am so glad I gave it a chance. I devoured this in one sitting.
Dark omegaverse with a manipulative male lead who deceives the female lead to bond with her.
I liked that the male lead was possessive of the female lead. So possessive he'd kill anyone in their way, he takes all precautions to prevent the anyone scenting the female lead and was always laying the ground work so that she eventually claims him back.
Unfortunately I was disappointed by everything else. The main leads were just OK for me. I wasn't all that interested in them, it was the alpha/omega dynamics that kept me reading - not the plot or dark romance. The writing style wasn't for me either, the smut didn't feel spicy, I wasn't feeling their chemistry and the male lead didn't feel swoonworthy despite me usually loving manipulative MMCs in dark romance.
I considered 3 stars but the plot was from the 75% mark was really weird and made me want to DNF.
The destroying of Julian Cross's pack came out of nowhere and felt unnecessary. Why did Julian bother coming back? Why does he care whether Malcolm comes back to his pack or not?
And Claudia kidnapping the female lead also felt so random and illogical. Trying to create an omega pheromone perfume? I didn't get the significance of it that it'd be worth kidnapping someone for. And surely there were plenty of omegas who would agree to experiments with payment. The perfume business didn't seem lucrative enough that Claudia would have beta guards hired to protect a warehouse. Why does Claudia even have a warehouse?
And the chosen club? Also unnecessary and came out of nowhere. How did the chosen club find out about Malcolm? Why would Malcolm bother joining it? What does joining it involve?
All of these tempted me between a 1-2 star. Wouldn't reread
I didn't like this as much as I thought I would unfortunately.
Stitch - It was OK. I didn't think much happened and there wasn't enough smut for it to feel spicy. It ended too early in my opinion
Rafe/Mia/Mateo: I loved seeing another male character fail to resist Mia's siren call. The smut was well written, the biting was a nice touch and rebellion from Rafe and Rafe not helping Mia/Mateo unless he had her. I did wish Rafe was darker though. He seemed too hesitant when loved how controlling he was in Vegas
It felt so out of character Mateo didn't lose his mind over Rafe sleeping with Mia though. Even if not during, then after. Actually, it's out of character for him to agree to it in the first place.
And I hated the revelation Mateo forced Mia to have a threesome with Meg. This is despite him loving Mia only the whole time. Really?
Morelli epilogue: Loved the scene of Mateo cuddling with Annalise and Mia as a happy family. I also loved Dominic and Tristan's cameo and how much they adored Mia.
I hated Roman and it made me really wish Vince was allowed in Dom's life. It's Vince's fears coming true, Mia is too soft and will only result in him getting pushed around by Meg and Mateo's son. The son who Mateo should not have given birth too. Ugh
And Mateo's reluctance to have more children with Mia rubbed me the wrong way too. Shouldn't he be so obsessed with her he wants to give her as many as she wants? I much prefer the breeding kink in Sam Mariano's other MMCs. What's his plan now? Condoms? It's his entire fault he has so many children.
I also don't buy Mia playing happy family with all of the step children. We can already see she has no power over Roman. I don't buy Lily would accept her given she was old enough she knew Meg is her mother and Mateo locked her up because of Mia. Mia deserved better than this.
I also hated the arc of Bella running away. Idiotic, boring and felt like a forced sneak peek of a future second gen Morelli novel that I don't care for. I really wanted more Mia/Mateo moments
Didn't care about the leads or their story. There was an interesting cameo of Vince where he is still hung up on Mia and miserable he can't see his own son. It's a shame it was so short and the Mia/Mateo/Vince story is over as I would've loved to read more of them
I didn't enjoy the plot or writing style. I kept waiting for a plot twist but unfortunately there wasn't one. It was short so I finished but wouldn't reread this book.
Merged review:
I didn't enjoy the plot or writing style. I kept waiting for a plot twist but unfortunately there wasn't one. It was short so I finished but wouldn't reread this book.
The only reason why this isn't a DNF 1 star is because I loved the glimpses of Vince/Mia/Mateo and Francesca also hated Mateo with Meg.
I didn't care about Francesca, Salvatore and their love story. I lost interest in them pretty much from the start. I just didn't buy the insta-lust and Francesca's attempts to rebuff him.
I was just clicking through their love story to see bits about Mia, Mateo and Vince. I loved seeing new insights that happened in the past though I lived for all of Francesca's attempts to get Mateo and Mia together. I really liked seeing Mia resisting Mateo though
This story was unexpectedly long, which I was initially excited about, and unfortunately dragged. I did reach the first smut scene of the couple but for me, it was just OK. I didn't really like or hate it. I'm also not the biggest fan of tattoos and piercings so this book just isn't for me
Pure smut. Stepmom/Step son, somno and breeding kink.
It was a promising premise but the female lead accepted things too easily and quickly for it to make sense.
Dark romance that is pure smut - somno and breeding kink. I was torn on 2 or 3 stars because the smut was okay but the book was really missing some development. I wish there was context other than the blurb on the background of the male and female lead before the smut kicked off. It just felt like these main leads appeared out of nowhere and we learn nothing about them.
I also found it unrealistic the female lead seemed to have no idea every morning about the male lead's visit. She didn't seem confused or surprised. And when the reveal happened, she didn't have a reaction at all.
DNF 30%. I was really excited about this book as I read Wild Man and I know the writing style is my jam, though the plot of Wild Man wasn't my thing. This time, the plot looked like it'd be right up my alley.
The book starts with a bang, immediately kicking off the dark romance between a mysterious stalker and an innocent female lead who has no idea the male lead has been visiting her.
But by 30% that's still where romance stagnates at. Initially I was intrigued guessing who the male lead was but the romance was so slow, virtually non existent that I even stopped caring who the male lead was.
There are dark themes in the book for sure, but barely any romance. There is a knife play and blood play scene in the book as part of the little romance there is in the book which isn't my jam either.
DNF 40%. Initial smut scene was good but then it all really dragged after pivoting to actual plot. It felt like it took forever to even get to the forced marriage plot
Short spicy read with reverse age gap and a manipulative male lead who is obsessed with the female lead
The first 50% I found this book absolutely enthralling. I didn't want to put it down. A dark male lead, who clearly is more sinister despite the kind husband vibe he's giving off and a confused female lead completely under his control.
I had so many questions. Is the male lead lying? Then, what is he lying about? I could easily work out the female lead's memories are real but why does she not remember anything? How did she end up married to the male lead? Were all the photos on the wall real or photoshopped? Does the female lead even have psychosis? Is the male lead's change in personality real or an act? Were people at the diner paid by the male lead to lie or did she genuinely never work there? I was so sure it'd be a 4 star read
Once “ghost” started making more appearances, things really started to drag. It was so obvious from the start he was Kane and it was frustrating it never clicked for the female lead given he was only other person she loved. I found myself skimming to the reveal though tempted to DNF, which only happened at the end.
While I didn't see the plot twist that “Asher” was Kane, instead of being blown away, I was just left confused. How was “Asher” on the phone while “ghost” was with the female lead? How can Kane even pretend to be Asher when there was a funeral? Is Kane married to the female lead as Asher or Kane? Are they even married? Why did the female lead frame Kane for the murder given she loved him?
This was a novella about a rich female lead who has been told all her life she's marrying a rich male lead but her father refuses to tell her his name. One day, she's told to attend lessons with two trainers on obedience.
It felt like a book where nothing happened. We still don't know who the female lead is marrying. The father? The master? There wasn't romance or smut. And before any interest has any interest built yet, we're getting bombarded with scenes of the female lead's friend. Distracting and unnecessary.
Pure smut but in this one the female lead is manipulating the male lead just as much as the male lead is with her. Unfortunately this was another forgettable story that blended with the others.
Short spicy read - naive female lead with age gap taboo.
I have noticed that the Josie Myer books do get repetitive after a while so honestly I had forgotten the plot of this hours later.
Pure smut but blended with the other Josie Myer books because they're all so similar. There is a bit of plot in this one with the male lead, his wife/female lead's mother and the female lead but I didn't like the direction of it.
Another pure smut book by Josie Myer but this one couldn't hold my interest. Male lead and female lead are forced to have sex with each other because the female lead's mother seduced the male lead's rival and that's apparently what the rival wanted to see. It seemed the most unrealistic plot, especially the face that the rival and the guards all walked out of the rooms only leaving video cameras.
This book had all the tropes I like reading but the writing wasn't great. It read too choppy. There was a whole heap of untranslated Russian.
The plot was also overly simplistic and unrealistic. The male lead married the female lead's mother to find out who the bullet is, and doesn't uncover it months later until the female lead prompts him, only for it to take 5 seconds. If it was that easy and marrying the female lead's mother wasn't even required to uncover the secret, why the marriage? The whole step father set up made no sense.
There is no way the female lead's mother had access to surveillance to find out the affair. 1- as the pakhan, he would have invested in security so that he would have a team monitoring to ensure no one had unauthorised access. 2- the female lead's mother was busy seducing people in Vegas
And how would the female lead's mother even be able to kidnap the female lead with how heavily guarded the male lead's house would be. She would not have been allowed to take an unconscious female out of the estate without guards questioning and notifying Nikolai
Not that I want the female lead assaulted but it was so cliche the male lead arrived just in time to save the female lead and the female lead's mother would simply confess to everything as soon as she was captured. As someone who grew up in the mafia, no doubt she would have died keeping all her secrets to herself
