The premise of this was good but I had an huge issue with the writing.
Initially the book was really slow. It took until 20% for the MMC to actually show up. I almost DNF at this point but the reveal of the MMC kept me going.
I liked how dark the MMC was, how he manipulated the FMC into marriage, he refuses to let her go, doesn't trust her, holds her friend as leverage and lusts for her. I hate how none of the scenes of the two together were described in detail. There was one sex scene that was fade to black. The MMC was supposedly obsessed with FMC but it was all told, we saw no evidence. There were so little scenes of them together. I would have loved to see scenes that actually showed his obsession
I also thought it was odd there was no dub con or non con with the forced marriage.
The mate idea also came completely out of nowhere. How did the female lead even find out it was a thing? How does the mate bond affect the male lead.
There was also a mention of a newly wed bond that went nowhere
I loved the idea of secret child but again we didn't see any of the glorious scenes that happened from that. No scene where the female lead finds out she was pregnant. Or the male lead capturing the female lead after she ran away. How did he find her? Why did it take him so long? How did she react? We didn't even see his reaction to his son.
After the female lead completed her sentence, we didn't see how the male lead treated the female lead. We were only told the male lead loved the female lead and the female lead was starting to fall in love with him. Where were the scenes of them together?
While I did like the idea of a non traditional HEA in this, it felt like so many important scenes were glossed over, while words were wasted on scenes where the female lead and male lead weren't even in the same room
I wanted to like this but there was so much grief and hate between the two MCs I felt no chemistry between them. I couldn't even like the smut. If you're looking for a fun smutty read, this is not it. I ended up skim reading to see if the main couple's chemistry improved and it didn't really
The MMC grieves his wife constantly, the FMC shamelessly refuses to move back to Michigan even though she was the cause of grief and claims to be in love with the MMC despite only receiving the cold shoulder from him and the whole plot with the lying of nationality/hair color leading to the events was just unrealistic/basic
There is also non con between the non MMC and FMC as well as physical abuse.
This book was ALMOST 4 stars.
Manipulative MMC who schemes everything to get the FMC by his side - getting the FMC to go on dates with him, sleep with him, birth control tampering, hidden surveillance, spyware on phone. The MMC is not sorry which was the best and the smut was really good as well.
I did feel like the writing flow broke and it just was not as good after the FMC discovered the MMC's schemes. There were a lot of time jumps where it felt like scenes were missing and there was no smut afterwards either.
An fun story I could see myself rereading overall
Short fun smutty read where a one off mistaken identity leads to a pregnancy. Really good smut with a bit of lactation kink and breeding kink at the end. Pregnancy arc kicks in very early in the book.
I did feel the plot about betraying female lead's sister disrupted flow because it did make me feel bad for the sister given she is cheated on after all and completely innocent. Also wasn't the biggest fan of water sports but it was minor
This book didn't hold my interest at all - plot wise or character wise. I put the book down so many times and I was indifferent to whether I'd DNF though I held out and finished to see if it'd improve. It didn't.
I've read dark romance books with body betrayal. But this is the first book I've read where I've absolutely hated it. The FMC is supposedly badass but the amount of body betrayal was absolutely frustrating to read. She is even more of a doormat than doormat FMCs. I went from being indifferent and not caring about her to absolutely hating her.
It's also so unrealistic for people as normal as Jason and Jayden's family are to stay hidden from Darren given who he is and the power he has
This book didn't hold my attention as well as the previous book - I almost DNF AT 30%. I can't say I enjoyed the plot and the MMC wasn't as alpha or swoonworthy as I would have liked but the spice was okay. I was indifferent to the FMC and found her big speech in the book cliche. This book was average in my opinion
I did like most of them, though I wish each story had more development. The servant was my favorite. The new wife, The Brother and Saturnalia was also so good but they all ended too abruptly
DNF 16%. There were too many characters at the start with no context which made it very confusing. The time jump to the start was much better pacing and it would have been so much better if it started there. I ultimately didn't finish because it was just so slow afterwards and the story instead of being a forbidden breedy romance with sexual tension was just sad. I didn't realise this would be a heartbreaking story where the MMC and FMC would fall in love with an abusive father separating them, forcing himself and a marriage on the FMC. I loved wild oat milk but this isn't what I wanted
DNF 61%. This book isn't really dark. The writing, plot and characters were average and didn't hold my attention after the forced marriage. I also felt like there was a lot of push on Gaia and Declan - maybe the author is planning to give them their own book? Just seemed forced
I loved how unhinged, possessive and jealous the MMC got over the FMC and the tropes... I did also like how the FMC tried to pretend her period went for 10 days. Though the mmc's obsession with the FMC's blood made me squeamish. I do think the book it had everything for a 5 star book but was let down by the writing - torn between 2 and 3 stars and wouldn't reread. The quality wasn't great. It seemed to cut off quite abruptly at scenes, even the smut, to be read smoothly and satisfyingly.
It was less spicy than I thought it'd be
The finale of the FMC's father's revenge was also really abrupt and could have been better developed.
I really loved The Catcher and I was excited by the blurb but I was disappointed by this one
I was so torn on 2 or 3 stars for this one and it was looking like 3 stars but the kinks in the epilogue were too much for me. It was a short fun smutty book though the writing was average and the physical fighting between the MCs in the middle was testing my boundaries
DNF 76%. I didn't like the plot with Martha and Luther. Neither of the MCs were likeable - the MMC caved too quickly and should have stayed dark. The FMC was too childish.
The writing quality was too poor for me to enjoy. The chemistry between the MCs weren't there. DNF 33%
Workplace romance, breeding kink.
The main lead dynamics and chemistry were just OK but the smut was good. Torn between 2 or 3 stars. The smut was good but again, missing an epilogue and I wasn't a fan of the female lead having a crush the entire time on the male lead and not question why the male lead suddenly changed his view of her once the breeding kink kicked in. Like surely she'd be confused at least? We saw nothing
This was really just two scenes of drugged non con smut which felt disjointed, abrupt and short when pieced together. The smut was OK though
I liked this one. Dub con, forced breeding, age gap, forbidden romance. Practically pure smut. This is a maybe reread for spice. It would be rated higher and a would reread status if there was an epilogue with the female lead pregnant. The ending seemed abrupt. Characters were OK but again, the smut carried and I did like the dynamics between the leads in this.
I also felt like the book built up pregnancy and lactation kink but never actually delivered. Again, an epilogue could have fixed that
I did like the male lead's manipulative/controlling side where there was dub con and he tampered with the female lead's car so she couldn't leave
I thought I'd like this book because I liked Knox well enough from the Royal Elite series, liked Anastasia well enough in the Thrones duet and was curious what Anastasia's mafia background would do to this contemporary plot. This got boring so fast however, the plot dragged, I couldn't care less about the court case and after the FMC and MMC's first meeting, I stopped caring about their romance too.
I found myself only being interested in the mafia moments scattered in the second half of the book, especially Rai, but wow did this book destroy my impression of Aleksander. He seemed to be unreasonably violent which was not like her in the Monsters trilogy.
Some of the banter between the other Royal Elite characters and Knox were a fun read though.
I also find it unbelievable that Sergei would have such a hard time hunting down his daughter that would lead to the entire book events in the first place. Come on.
And Anastasia being this accomplished hacker? I don't know I find that believable either.
The female lead was real bratty and unreasonable but the smut was good - I did like the forced breeding kink though the rest of the book read choppy and felt too abrupt. I do like sharing in books but the scene with the brother felt out of place and unnecessary. I would have preferred scenes of the two leads back at the house or an epilogue with their babies
Overall it was OK though wouldn't reread
DNF 39%. The first chapter was interesting with the backstory of how the FMC and MMC first met but after that I was bored. I didn't care about the FMC, MMC or the plot. I wasn't seeing any chemistry between the leads either. It was an issue of triggers, nothing bothered me in this, I was just bored
1-2 stars. Disappointing and forgettable. I wasn't a fan of the writing style. The romance was OK but the plot wasn't enjoyable to read - just didn't like it.
There was also unnecessary focus on side couples when already felt like there wasn't enough romance scenes between the main couple.
I really didn't like this book and only tried to finish it because it's been highly recommended
I was quite torn on 2 or 3 stars. The book was just OK. I didn't dislike it and I can't say I liked it either. This is a law firm romance between an intern and a playboy senior partner. The female lead is warned away from the male lead and the male lead is almost immediately interested in having sex with her.
There isn't really any romance build up and I only kept reading to read all the smut scenes. The main characters were bland and for a book that I assumed was smutty, it took more than half the book to get even get to the first scene and only two scenes were between the main leads, the second being a MFM sharing scene towards the end. Another smutty scene was FF and the other was the male lead with a different female character.
The smut scenes were decent, though I probably wouldn't reread the book for them.
I didn't buy the two leads getting together. It just seemed like the male lead had some initial sexual attraction with the female lead and didn't want her ending up with anyone else hence proposing a relationship together. I wasn't seeing any romance.
Started off promising but romance began quite abruptly and with no chemistry between the MCs. MCs from previous books also were inserted, but not done well.
