DNF27%. I just couldn't really get into it. Can't out my finger on whether it's the MCs, plot or writing I'm not finding interesting
I tried to like this but I just wasn't seeing any chemistry between the main couple. It was also so slow I got bored reading. DNF 30%
This was THE book that got me out of my book slump. Perfect dark romance. Plot twists, chemistry between FMC and MMC, great characterisations and the pacing/plot was enthralling.
The only flaw was too much focus on the FMC's friend, yet none of the mysteries introduced about this friend are ever resolved which just made it confusing. I could immediately tell the author was trying to set up for her next book after the trilogy but I wish she didn't do this in this book because it wasn't well done and ruined flow
I liked this book, didn't blow my mind but it was a cute story with some smutty goodness between the two main leads I adore. Jennifer writes really good romance and smut though the smut of this one wasn't at the level of deliciousness in her main series.
I wish this one had fang action now that Poppy has fangs too but perhaps in the next one!
I do like how obsessed Casteel is with Poppy, their banter Cas's dimples and Poppy's shyness/inquisitiveness
I read this not knowing this was a poly book with MMV! So absolutely loved it until the poly scene started at around 80-90%. Would have been 5 stars otherwise
This book was fine - I really liked the forbidden love aspect and the friendship between the FMC and the MMC's son There was a lot of untranslated Italian which really disrupted flow where I had to constantly look up what it meant. I can't explain what was missing in this book, perhaps the writing style isn't for me. The two MCs certainly had chemistry and I was rooting for them.
This book is not as dark as expected and I liked it. There was good chemistry between the two MCs, the writing engaging and the plot decent - it did drag slightly around the 80% mark. And the side plot with Gigi was a bit too predictable for me.
Note: just started the second book and boy, it gets REALLY dark. Too dark.
I was torn on 2 or 3 stars for this one. The two MCs were likeable enough, they had chemistry but it was missing something plot wise or trope wise that really made me think I like this book. The plot didn't keep me on the edge of my seat.
Levi was possessive, jealous but the whole book was less steamy than I thought and Levi wasn't as dark as I'd like.
I didn't see the Jasmine/lord Clifton/Victoria direction to head the way it did and I was pleasantly surprised
I read Nicole and Daniel's story first and they weren't likeable. Daniel was more likeable in this story but wow, Nicole is even worse in this. The redemption arc and her and Daniel's arc seems forced even in this book
Disappointed, dnf 30%. I couldn't get into the FMC or MMC - didn't find either of them likeable. A lot of Japanese stereotyping in this book, I'm guessing Naomi's father is linked to the Japanese mafia but there was just too much of it. No chemistry between Naomi and Sebastian. And the plot about the MMC sleeping with the FMC for a bet is just so cliche I can already imagine how it's going to go.
It's a shame because I did see this duet recommended online and I adored most other rina Kent books
This book gave me the ick, couldn't feel chemistry between the FMC and MMC though I was interested in the first 5%?
The amount of comparisons between FMC and her sister really put a damper on the romance... it just felt wrong...
There is also some daddy kink and BDSM
I was very stuck on two or three stars for this book. The things I liked and disliked about this book are the exact opposite of Amid Clouds and Bones. In Amid Clouds and Bones I liked the writing, the plot, the side characters but I just didn't like the MMC - didn't find him likeable at all.
However, in this book, I absolutely loved the MMC and his romance with the FMC. I loved how besotted the MMC was with the FMC, how jealous and possessive he was, the fated mates, the steamy scenes, the blood drinking scenes. I would have loved the MMC to be more dark and villainous though.
The writing really dragged and there was a lot of telling instead of showing. E.g. the reveal that the FMC knew the MMC was her mate the whole time but as a reader, I saw no signs of it beforehand? Instead of vivid descriptions about architecture and landscapes, i would have preferred subtle descriptions of her inner thoughts like that.
And I didn't care for the side characters like Persy - all of her scenes were useless and slowed the pacing? Like the gambling den scene? What was even the point of it?
The plot was also meh.
I liked the love triangle between Regin/Fia/Prince, especially because it brought out the MMC's jealous side. I just thought Regin gave up on the FMC too easily and conveniently.
I don't think Mirra deserved to be queen either. That ending was anticlimatic.
DNF 57%. I didn't find the characters likeable and didnt buy their chemistry or the story but I tried to stick it out because so many people have raved about it and I wanted to find out what the lighthouse was hiding. I just got so bored that I had to stop reading however.
I didn't find the MMC likeable at all and I don't think the chemistry was there. DNF about 70%-80% and skim read the rest
DNF 69%. I really tried to push through this book since it's not long but it never hooked me from the start and even while I was reading, I just wanted to put it down. I didn't care about the characters, I didn't really feel their chemistry and I didn't find the smut spicy.
I couldn't deal with them starting to play act their first meeting for a revenge sex tape. It felt really cringe and that was the last straw for me.
I did like the epilogues, it was really cute.
However, the plot, romance and writing of this book were all just OK.
I found myself skimming through the book instead of reading to find out what happens but I wasn't liking the direction of the plot
This is a second chance romance in a school setting where both leads are teachers. I felt there was no build up to the romance at all. Despite it being a second chance romance, there is no angst or pining.
I'm also not a fan that the ending was Callie deciding the executive director role in the city wasn't her dream and wanted to move back to the small town to settle down with the male lead.
I loved this one - a really fun smutty read with an obsessed over the top male lead. My only complain is this was too short - the book cut off just after the main couple get together when I would have loved more smutty goodness with them together. Devoured in one sitting. Definitely would reread. Torn between 4 or 5 stars
Innocent female lead, age gap, breeding kink, lactation kink and a male lead that will get jealous at anyone who looks at the female lead with friendly intent.
DNF 19%. Didn't vibe with the MMC, FMC or the writing. I felt like the plot was dragging. I don't typically like monster romances though there have been some I still really liked. This unfortunately wasn't one of them
Pretty torn on 1 or 2 stars. I didn't exactly hate it but I didn't like it either. I got bored pretty quickly and was so tempted to DNF but kept going because it was a short story. After finishing it, I think I could have DNFed it.
I like reading fun smutty novellas but nothing really happened in this book and the smut wasn't spicy enough to hold my interest
I was pretty torn on 1 or two stars. The first scene caught my interest from the start but eventually I got bored about a third in. I only continued to see if it picked up but it didn't. I didn't feel like I cared about any of the characters and didn't feel any chemistry between the FMC or any of the other characters. I don't think the writing was descriptive enough either. I think it was supposed to be smutty but it didn't read that way as the scenes weren't really spicy. The ending was also predictable.
DNF 20%. Surprisingly, the writing style is engaging despite 600 pages, I was enraptured from the beginning. However I disliked both the MMC and FMC. They had no chemistry. In fact, the only reason why I kept reading was I was hoping someone other than Nixon was the MMC. I thought it'd be Tyrone and then Flynn.
20% is when I realised the MMC is Nixon and I did not want the MCs together. In fact, I hope the FMC runs far far away
This book was almost 4 stars but eventually settled on 3 stars. This book had decent plot and decent spice that I liked well enough - I actually devoured the first half in hours and had to force myself to put the book down to go to sleep, but then picked the book up again as soon as I woke up.
The book is actually not as spicy as you'd think it'd be.
I liked that the MMC was initially cruel to the FMC and the FMC terrified of the MMC. The main leads are forced into a marriage that neither of them want. The MMC was so attracted to her however, the smut good and we saw the FMC transform from avoiding the MMC, wanting to get things over and done with, then being trained to enjoy his attentions and give him attention. I wasn't sure I'd dig the spanking but I liked it in this book. The whole training arc was really good.
There is a jealousy arc where the MMC becomes jealous of the FMC's attraction to another male character and then grovels for forgiveness. This arc had promise but it was just OK. I would have loved to see the MMC show his dark side more here - I did think the MMC's jealousy faded to nothingness too quickly and I also thought the FMC's attraction to the other male fizzled out too quickly, given how in love she supposedly was with him.
I also thought the arc and the dialogue in the scenes where the FMC finally stands up to her father was a bit cliche.
The ending was okay, a happy one, but a bit abrupt - I would have loved to see an epilogue where the FMC and MMC live their happily ever after with children or at least a pregnancy announcement.
Overall, an enjoyable read.
The spicy scenes are the best and the manipulative MMC who completely steamrolls over the FMC was perfection. I wasn't a fan of the plot, especially the Chloe arc. But I loved the bully romance between the MMC and FMC
