I didn't find the MMC likeable at all and I don't think the chemistry was there. DNF about 70%-80% and skim read the rest
I probably should have DNF earlier but I really wanted to like this book since it's highly praised on dark romance social media posts.
DNF 50%. I was so bored the entire time reading - it was so slow. There were constant flash backs to 3 years ago but whether it's the past or present, I felt like nothing was happening nor was I curious. There was no romance happening either and I didn't care for any of the characters in the book
Torn between 3-4 stars. This is heavy on plot and light on romance. The plot is good though I loved and lived for the romance that is in it. The main couple, their love and dynamics is everything. The smut as always in this series is really good. The male lead is just so obsessed with the female lead I love it.
If it weren't for the FMC being likeable and the plot that makes me want to find out what's happening and when Reina and Rai will reunite, I definitely would have DNF'd. I really like Reina and I really felt sympathetic for her plight. Her confusion and frustration at her memory loss and everyone around her being fake or hating her.
Normally I like the MMC more than the FMC but in this case it's the other way around. I hate Asher, I knew he'd be toxic from the start because I received a warning before I started reading but wow, the whole time I was reading I just wanted the FMC to leave him, and that's saying something because I found him decent in the Thrones duet.
There are so many series where the ending or the final book disappoints. This is not one of them. This is my favourite Rina Kent story I've read, in fact, one of my favourite stories period. I absolutely loved Rai and Kyle, their love story and the plot of this. I devoured this book in half a day because it was THAT good. Definitely a series I'll reread
Swoon worthy MMC and promising plot but I just found the plot basic. There were also so many words where nothing much happened. Would have been a 3 star book if not for the swoonworthy MMC. The way he calls the FMC “Lemon” just melts me
I really didn't expect to like this book after DNFing Corrupt but this book hooked me almost right after starting. Really loved the MMC and FMC. I didn't expect to connect with a blind FMC but I just really adored her chemistry with Damon and wanted to give her a hug for her characterisation.
And Damon, flaws and all, was so possessive and obsessed with Winter that I couldn't resist him.
When it ended, I really wanted more scenes of these two together
The plot, the backstory and the spicy scenes were all really good. (Though I would have loved even more spice)
The only thing that lets this book down is the way the writing is structured. The time jumps between 5 years, 7 years and present made it difficult to follow at times - sometimes it works but in this case, chronological would have been less confusing. I know it's the third book in the series but the author could have also summarised some of the events that are referenced in the book or given enough context for these to follow this story in the 5 year and 7 year flash backs- it became very confusing to understand. Eg the falling out of the horsemen with Damon seemed to come out of nowhere in this book. Even just one line would have helped.
The amount of focus on this book Rika had also annoyed me... am not the biggest fan of her... or Alex
DNF51 %. I loved the prologue, I was really looking forward to it being a 5 star read. It was also a second chance romance with secret child trope and a male lead who was obsessed with his wife. But the plot and the writing style couldn't hold my interest. And there were way too many mafia side characters I was getting lost
The biggest injustice was that Kirill's scene was deleted. I just subscribed and holy moly was that one of the best non con smut scenes I've read.
This book was enthralling from the start. I don't even like RH but somehow the author made it work in this book. I could see chemistry between the FMC and all three MMCs. I loved how the MMCs were dark yet obsessed with the FMC. I only wish there was even more smut.
I was so sure the book would be a four star or potentially even a 5 but then the book suddenly slowed dramatically with a flashback of Lily's childhood with her grandmother and father and the book started to drag from there, though I loved the twist at the end with Lily's realisation and the cliffhanger, which has me so excited for the next book. I was thinking of downgrading it to 3 stars just because how much the book dragged until the twist at the end but then I found the deleted Kirill's scene and upgraded it back to 4.
I do hope the second book is spicier and I'm so excited to see more scenes of the FMC and MMCs together and whether the FMC will try to keep what she discovered a secret.
I hated the plot and hated the MMC. The FMC I liked well enough but she had no chemistry with the MMC. Finished the book for the plot and I was eager to see the FMC reunite with her twin. The Rai and Kyle scenes did not disappoint. Actually the last 15% with the mafia scenes were all good.
The whole FMC and MMC contemporary world plot was a disappointment. Yes I was fooled by the little plot twist but even the plot twist, I didn't like. The MMC does not deserve the FMC
Great chemistry between MCs, plot and hits all of the tropes I like. It just misses something that makes the MMC book boyfriend material so 4 star not 5 star
I liked this book okay - this book continues on developing the forbidden romance between Nila and Jethro. I'm glad to see Jethro willing to face his feelings for Nila, the scene where he was so determined to save her and warm her up after the second debt was pivotal.
We also saw a bit more revealed about why Jethro is the man he is today with Jasmine's appearance after the second debt. I do feel the author is dragging the mystery and the debts a bit too much for my liking. I wouldn't reread this book but I am invested enough in the forbidden relationship between Nila and Jethro to read the next book.
So many questions... Why Bonnie is so eager to get rid of Nila? Why does Cut have such a hold over Jethro? Will Jethro be punished? What is his punishment? Does Cut know about the romance between Nila and Jethro? Will Vaughn and Tex be able to successfully save Nila from the Hawks? If so, will the Hawks go after them and will Nila return to the Hawks? Is Kestral a good person the main leads can trust? What is the third debt?
I'm so torn on whether to rate this a 1 or a 2. This book for me dragged so much that throughout the book I wanted to DNF. The debts no longer hold my interest
I was so mad when Jethro was shot but I'm in disbelief that not only Jethro is alive but Kestral too. It makes no logical sense that both of them look dead enough for Cut not to suspect anything but them both to be alive, survive without proper hospital treatment after that
The way Jethro's condition is described in the books was confusing. Initially it made logical sense, he's very sensitive to other people's emotions but in this book it made it seem like he had a superpower.
I'm also disappointed that Jethro seems to be all talk no action in these last two books. He says he'll save her and keeps sending her back to the Hawkes but really, Nila has been on her own.
I was torn on 2 or 3 stars. As much as I want to know how Nila and Jethro will end, the story is starting to feel like it's dragging, especially knowing we're only on debt 3 out of 6 debts.
I liked that Jethro became jealous of Kestral and I do root for him and Nila together but this series is so long
I liked this book better than the last one - we start to see forbidden romance brewing between the main couple with a little spice and the debt inheritance arrangement is interesting enough that I'll be reading the next one.
It's a 3 star because I liked it OK but I wouldn't reread this book.
DNF 57%. I didn't find the characters likeable and didnt buy their chemistry or the story but I tried to stick it out because so many people have raved about it and I wanted to find out what the lighthouse was hiding. I just got so bored that I had to stop reading however.
DNF 23%. I just couldn't get into this. The FMC seems real immature and the MMC unlikeable. I did not find myself interested in shipping their relationship or the plot.
The plot wasn't bad, different but I didn't really enjoy it. I didn't care for the MMC, FMC or any single one of the side characters. I probably should have DNF but I was intrigued enough about how the romance and plot would develop that I kept going. Unfortunately the MMC and FMC didn't have much chemistry and the plot isn't interesting for me to continue onto the second book.
I was very stuck on two or three stars for this book. The things I liked and disliked about this book are the exact opposite of Amid Clouds and Bones. In Amid Clouds and Bones I liked the writing, the plot, the side characters but I just didn't like the MMC - didn't find him likeable at all.
However, in this book, I absolutely loved the MMC and his romance with the FMC. I loved how besotted the MMC was with the FMC, how jealous and possessive he was, the fated mates, the steamy scenes, the blood drinking scenes. I would have loved the MMC to be more dark and villainous though.
The writing really dragged and there was a lot of telling instead of showing. E.g. the reveal that the FMC knew the MMC was her mate the whole time but as a reader, I saw no signs of it beforehand? Instead of vivid descriptions about architecture and landscapes, i would have preferred subtle descriptions of her inner thoughts like that.
And I didn't care for the side characters like Persy - all of her scenes were useless and slowed the pacing? Like the gambling den scene? What was even the point of it?
The plot was also meh.
I liked the love triangle between Regin/Fia/Prince, especially because it brought out the MMC's jealous side. I just thought Regin gave up on the FMC too easily and conveniently.
I don't think Mirra deserved to be queen either. That ending was anticlimatic.
I did quite like this book, I did think it went downhill a bit from 85% and it could have been spicier.
I really liked the manipulative nature of the male lead: moving into the female lead's house, buying complicated coffee machines just so that she'd be forced to rely on him, kidnapping her in the middle of the night to bring her over to his apartment, subtly moving her into his apartment and becoming by the majority shareholder so that the female lead can't leave him.
I also really liked his jealous and possessive nature, especially over Chris. And I did like how he recreated the book he burned in the fire to earn the female lead's forgiveness - that was the sweetest. And he's obsessed with the female lead - removing contraception, refusing condoms and tried to get her to marry him.
I was disappointed there wasn't forced marriage and pregnancy actually. I felt the story went downhill starting from when the male lead stopped having a dark manipulative side anymore. He sold all of the extra shares, only to end up in the exact same situation he tried to prevent, having Milo destroy his career with lawsuits. It just made no sense. He wanted to marry the female lead but he just let it go. The dark in the dark romance just wasn't there
And as much as I looked forward to an HEA epilogue, I thought the ceremony being a mess just wasn't the ending that fitted the story. Although I did like the MMC saying he'd bring the altar to her if she didn't marry him.
Holy moly this book was absolutely amazing. I've been procrastinating on starting this book for a while because it's a whopping 700+ pages but wow, just wow. I could not predict where the book was going to go at all and I was just devouring through the pages. I was afraid at times, curious and rooting for both the FMC and the MMC (once I worked out who the MMC was).
The plot was pretty much flawless, there was not a single thing I was put off by the plot, the mysteries was interwoven beautifully, information revealed strategically and not a single plot hole.
I absolutely dread slowburn but I actually didn't mind it in this book. I absolutely loved the romance in this book. The pacing was perfect as well - though it did drag slightly from 80% onwards. Unquestionably 5 stars.
DNF 46%. The FMC's name is weird, the writing wasn't engaging, neither of the MCs were that likeable and I wasn't feeling any chemistry. I just got bored reading
