I can't explain why I didn't enjoy reading this - it has all the tropes I enjoy and there was spice. I just didn't find myself caring about the MMC or FMC, the pace felt slow and wasn't really feeling their chemistry. It was so promising at the start but my interest really fizzled out after the FMC was taken to her cell. DNF 61%
DNF 15%. I didn't like the direction of the plot or the writing style. I also thought the female lead was unreasonable and the female lead's best friend one of the most unlikeable characters I've read.
As much as I love second chance romances, I didn't like the plot of this book.
It was a big miscommunication that lasted way too long and there were way too many scenes focused on a side couple, Bethany and Wes, instead of building chemistry between the main leads.
The only thing good about this book is the smut, which was well written. Not amazing but good. Wouldn't reread this book.
DNF 44%. This story really dragged. All of the flashbacks to the past were completely unnecessary. The MMC and FMC were not likeable, had no chemistry and there was no real plot developing. I tried to push through be side I knew this book would have tropes I like but I'm too bored. Nikolai's book was better
I got bored reading this. DNF 40%. It was supposed to be a smutty read but there wasn't anything I really enjoyed about it - the writing, the smut, the characters, the plot. I didn't have it, I was just bored
DNF 51%. It had promise, especially the first chapter. A troubled teen who didn't speak or connect to anyone suddenly outsmarted by a little 5 year old.
There were so many references to racial appearances at the start of the book it felt forced and overly intentional, taking focus away from the plot, as opposed to simply reflecting reality.
I wasn't feeling any chemistry between the main leads either and found none of them likeable
Once I got over the initial 10% to get to when the FMC meets Jake, this book really started to kick off. The FMC had really great chemistry with all 3 of the men, and surprisingly, as someone who doesn't read RH, I really shipped the FMC with all 3 of them and the smut was really good.
The book at times was quite slow though and I had to skim through where nothing was happening. Particularly the last 80%.
What really took the rating down below a 3 star was the change of the FMC shifting to liking the MMC only was so abrupt it was jarring. Jake and Noah were suddenly dropped as love interests out of no where and Jake suddenly forced into something with Mirai.
I liked the main leads and their relationship dynamics. The start was an especially fun and dark read. Once the female lead started liking the male lead (about 30%-40% in), the plot really started to drag and I felt like nothing was happening. There was almost zero plot. Only the smut was holding it together and even that seemed underdeveloped, brief and unsatisfying in this book.
I wasn't sure I'd like this one but I was sort of in a book rut and accidentally clicked on it.
I should not have doubted Sam Mariano's ability to write an engaging story. I quite liked this. Although the MMC is not as dark as I typically like (he is an absolute sweet dumpling to the FMC compared to Untouchable and Descent) and the FMC being someone who slept with a married man and pursuing the MMC for a change, I actually liked both leads.
There were parts I wish didn't happen like the FMC having Theo's baby and the non con towards the end (though not graphic), they actually didn't bother me. Especially given how sweet the MMC was with MacKenzie in the epilogue.
I also wish we had an alternate universe where the FMC met the MMC first and she was having his baby - the breeding kink when the MMC was drunk was so good. Although the FMC being pregnant at the end made up for it
I probably wouldn't reread this but I did really enjoy the story from start to finish, never wanted to put it down - it had a good balance of story and spice and the characters were likeable.
K Webster is a really great writer and the writing in this is good but I couldn't really like this plot hence the low rating It was engaging that I couldn't stop until I reached the end. The characters were all neither unlikeable or likeable. I also thought it was so cliche the MMC had a tragic backstory and would sleep talk about it when having nightmares
I was pretty torn on whether I should rate this one or two stars. The smut was good - there was sharing and lactation kink in this one as well. But I didn't like anything else - the plot about the female lead being a replacement for the male lead's dead lover, I wasn't feeling chemistry between the leads and I wasn't attached to any of the main leads.
The start of this was really good - the chase, the possessiveness, the threatening of Carmen to force Lyla to marry Gavin again - the pacing and writing was also really good. but the very next chapter being an exact repeat from Gavin's POV was completely unnecessary
I also liked that Lyla is standing her ground on not wanting the marriage and Gavin calmly tells her he'll give her anything she wants except alone time - he even follows her to the guest bedroom when she tried to find a different room to sleep because “your space is my space”
But things got boring from 20% onwards. The FMC punching her father seemed really out of character. And I really wasn't feeling chemistry between the main couple anymore - not even during the smut. The FMC carried the previous book but she gave in way too easily and suddenly was already exchanging I love yous with the MMC again after everything. The stripper pole scene was also cringey
I did like the argument at the 40% mark though - where Layla argues back that she has to trust that Gavin won't cheat or go back to the underworld again when Gavin tells her trusting her word that she won't run again isn't enough.
DNF 57%
I was torn on 2 vs 3 stars for this one. The characters kepts me interested and so did the dynamics. Something about the plot though... I didn't fully enjoy. I just didn't find it that believeable and forgettable? That being said, it was riveting enough that I finished the book in one night + one morning
I was quite torn on 2 or 3 stars. The book was just OK. I didn't dislike it and I can't say I liked it either. This is a law firm romance between an intern and a playboy senior partner. The female lead is warned away from the male lead and the male lead is almost immediately interested in having sex with her.
There isn't really any romance build up and I only kept reading to read all the smut scenes. The main characters were bland and for a book that I assumed was smutty, it took more than half the book to get even get to the first scene and only two scenes were between the main leads, the second being a MFM sharing scene towards the end. Another smutty scene was FF and the other was the male lead with a different female character.
The smut scenes were decent, though I probably wouldn't reread the book for them.
I didn't buy the two leads getting together. It just seemed like the male lead had some initial sexual attraction with the female lead and didn't want her ending up with anyone else hence proposing a relationship together. I wasn't seeing any romance.
DNF 54%. I really tried to like this because so many people rave about this series. I no joke started and DNF'ed the first chapter of this 7 times and then each page I manage to finish reading after that, I really had to force mysef to power through, hoping it would get better as other people online said it would. It didn't - I should have just given up the first time I DNF one page in. The prose was wordy, filled with jargon and everything was slow. I didn't connect with any of the characters, I wasn't feeling any chemistry and nothing was going on with the plot, I was bored out of my mind.
DNF 37%. It's steamy and the MMC is possessive which I like. I also normally enjoy forbidden romance but I couldn't find myself liking the MMC. He felt creepy to me.
The plot is better from the 57% mark but I DNF again at 80%
DNF 30%. I've read this author's work in fanfic and this author is an absolutely fantastic writer but this book didn't work for me.
This book had no character build up or sexual tension - it just jumped straight to all 3 leads lusting over each other from the outset but then it took half the book for the MFM smut to happen so it felt like the book was dragging
DNF 61%. I really wanted to like this because I've seen this recommended a lot but I didn't find myself interested in the two MC's developing relationship. I don't think they had chemistry and the plot didn't hold my interest either
The FMC's naivety and innocence had me chuckling at times - with her casually giving the MMC the gun she's threatening him with and her being afraid she's putting the MMC in danger by being around him. The writing style and the FMC was too juvenile for my liking however.
I was torn between 2 or 3 stars for this book. There's a bit more smut which I liked, some jealousy scenes with Tristan showing his possessive side and there was a good plot twist at the end which I didn't see coming, but I can't say I liked the book.
I would have continued with the rest of the series to see how the plot line resolves but the author is changing the MCs. I didn't really like Amara and Dante as a couple and I'm not invested enough in the world to want to keep reading
I really didn't like the plot of this.
Initially for the first 20%, it read slow. The leads are in other relationships and I was bored.
Things improved once they met and I was so sure it'd be a 3 star book. I really liked how possessive Gentry was over Leana - “you're mind”, their scenes had so much chemistry between the two -the breeding kink though it was minor, all the steamy scenes where there's cock warming and pushing cum back in and his jealousy over Karson sleeping with her. Then Karson being obsessed with her too though his kinks went too far for me - blood play and asking the female lead to play dead
But the serial killer scenes bored me, I found Mickey working with George predictable and I didn't like how the the female lead was non conned by all of these people who kidnapped her.
The book then dragged even further after that where I felt like nothing was happening. Would not reread
I tried to like this but I just wasn't seeing any chemistry between the main couple. It was also so slow I got bored reading. DNF 30%
