Dnf @ 47% , I really tried not to, FOR A WHOLE WEEK, because I was so unbelievably excited to get into this one but I'm just bored & was unconvinced of the “extremely obsessed” aspect of this book between the characters. I didn't feel connected to either of the main characters or the story, it's about time I move on with my life.
This review sums it up perfectly for me:

i kin Alex so BAD
Uriah literally deserves everything & more he's such a good friend
Xiuying & Alex's friendship literally made my heart burst
ALEX AND TATE WERE SO CUTE FUCK
the neurodivergent/trans/queer representation was literally so fucking perfect—coming from a queer, trans, & neurodivergent person!
this book made me laugh, tear up, & i even cried at this really specific scene surrounding the celebration of transness because i related so much & it hurt so good
my last book of April & it was amazing FUCKKK
take what i say with a grain of salt because i am one of the very few outliers when it comes to opinions on this book but like...
did i read the same book as everyone else??? i would've actually enjoyed this if i could have stopped focusing on everything i disliked buuuuut!—i didn't like the writing style it was super repetitive, the main character millie is annoying & she acts stupid even though she isn't, & the plot was..meh, average, mediocre!
yet another FOMO/booktok read and YET AGAIN i am disappointed
ALTHOUGH i'm not gonna lie, i loved the epilogue/ending, but that was the only part of the entire book that i liked T.T
heads up i'm ranting about how much the sister “side plot” (main plot lets just call it what it is) of this book pissed me off & annoyed me every chance i get
i thought this was supposed to be a romance novel????
#1. libby for gods sake stop calling nora sissy every chance you get
#2. WHY ARE WE GETTING SO MUCH OF THE SISTER DYNAMICS??? I DONT GIVE AF???
#3. charlie & nora's banter was so good, such a shame this book didn't live up to it's potential to give them the story they deserve—in the beginning i was REALLY enjoying the book, much like a 4 store, then towards the middle/end i got SO bored because of the freaking complex sister dynamic plot line, i almost dnf'd but i pushed through
#4. the romance wasn't believable, 100 pages in & they're already kissing? why we going so fast?? if the book spent more time focusing on the actual romance between the two characters rather than the sister dynamics it would've made more sense
#5. the pacing was very off to me & i didn't enjoy it, mostly because of how much the sister thing takes up the plot like i mentioned before & the romance wasn't centralized like the book was marketed for it to be
this is my first time reading a book written by emily henry & i'm quite disappointed, i was expecting so much more especially because of booktok ya kno
i had absolutely no idea what was going on in this book, imo the world building was trash & the plot was ??? like i was so confused the ENTIRE time, but it had some redeeming qualities like the magic system & the main character, i also enjoyed a few scenes when it was clear enough for me to understand so 2.75 - very very VERY low 3.
man i wish this book was executed better, like I SEE THE VISION i really do & this concept has major 5 star potential but it just wasn't there.
