One more time:

Rest at pale evening ...
A tall slim tree ...
Night coming tenderly
Black like me.
—Langston Hughes, “Dream Variation”

Distracted from distraction by distractionFilled with fancies and empty of meaningTumid apathy with no concentration.

After reading a book of essays, this felt like a good break.

While the essays here were less memorable compared to Getting Even, Woody Allen's writing has noticeably improved. The edition I read didn't include the two plays, but that didn't bother me at all. The return of Kaiser was absolutely superb!

The good thing that came out of it is I got rid of the other two books I had—The War of the Worlds and The Invisible Man. Maybe I'll check out their adaptations—who knows!

It comes down to: “Don't waste water, even if you were at a running stream.”
