This book has several contentious parts + I got increasingly bored while reading but I liked the world building and it was enough to distract me from the whitecel mc and his fantasy gf. I also saw an article on the book's exclusion of black 80s culture but I honestly think this should be counted as a blessing.

It started off well but then became so tedious to read around the middle

This seemed like a standard murder mystery until the end where it became bizarre. The reveal of Charlie's ideations was awkwardly pulled out of left field and the ending was clumsy at humiliating and screwing Charlie over as much as possible.
