When the snake handling preacher dies, was it an accident or murder? I was really excited for this 2nd book in the series, but it wasn't quite as good as the first one. Lots of characters, twists and turns. I wasn't truly happy with the way it ended, but I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

I enjoyed this mystery set in Paris, France. I didn't realize it was part of a series, but I don't feel like I missed anything. The story does focus on the murder mystery at a chocolate company, rather than the bookshop, so the title is a little misleading. There were a few hints about the mystery of the bookshop, but the mystery was never solved. I do look forward to the next book in the series as I enjoyed the characters very much.

The story started out well and then got bogged down in details that were not completely relevant. I always enjoy reading historical novels for the history, but this was information overload. I never felt like the details of the investigation itself were revealed and I was surprised when he was suddenly arresting suspects, but we sure knew what he ate every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The premise of the book was interesting, the large cast of characters was interesting. The story started ok and just fades somewhere along the way. I did enjoy the descriptions of the food and the cooking and the restaurants, but by the end, I didn't really care who the killer was.

The tone of this book is overwhelming grief. I wouldn't read it if you're depressed or grieving.
The main character was not very likeable and very annoying. The book was mainly based on reading her thoughts and her talking to her dead sister. I almost put it down, but did eventually finish it. Yes there's a twist at the end that I didn't see coming, but it took so long to get there.

I love historical mysteries. This one is set in the 1900's in England which is a time period that I find interesting. The mystery itself was interesting. The romantic triangle just seemed like a means to an end and was not explored. Overall, the characters were interesting and the mystery was solved with the past and the present coming together nicely.

I picked this one up and couldn't put it down. The incoming storm creates a sense of urgency for the characters. Some of them are working on a book about a past murder and others are just figuring out who they are. Several twists, even at the end, keep the pace moving. The ending was just ok, but the rest of it will keep you reading.

I really wanted to like this book more, but it was just ok. I didn't care much for the interaction between Jane and her husband. I didn't think Jane was a very likeable character. The mystery of Frank was just not exciting either. I finished the book and thought this was just an ok, kinda dry mystery.
