Beautiful tale of Ireland around the end of the Victorian era. Aileen is the heroine of the piece as she comforts her uncle's dying days and then hopes to keep her hamlet together despite famine, disease, and a strong-willed landowner determined to ship them all off to South America for a new start.
The title mainly refers to the town having to work past all this together, I think, but there is some romance too. Just enough to provide a really satisfying ending, of course!
The best thing was the feeling of being right there in old Ireland and the lush descriptions.
