This collection of stories might be my favorite of the Hellboy books I've read. Especially the Humunculus and the Wolves.
These short, melancholic vignettes are the perfect format for Hellboy I think.
Mike Mignola loves him some Irish mythology, and I do too! An excellent collection of “short stories” adapted from mythologies, legends, and folktales that really add to the Hellboy character. And it is still some of the best art I've seen - crisp, modern, sparse, classic, lush, all of the above in this beautiful mix. Great stuff.
Another 5/5 for me. Conqueror Worm was just perfect, can't wait to start reading Lobster Johnson. The Third Wish was a little weak compared to the others but it's still better than most comics I've read. The Island might just be my new favorite Hellboy story. I'm such a sucker for esoteric lore and secret histories and this one is chock full of that. The panel after Hellboy drinks with some sailors and turns to find out they're skeletons is just quintessential Mignola.
