It's a dark, sarcastic comedy. A young man agrees to marry a woman weighing over two hundred pounds when her father promises to pay him, in troy ounces of gold, exactly what she weighs on the day of the wedding. Evidently the writing was done well, but the attitude and the complete lack of development of Martha's character ruined it for me. The narrator showed himself to be pretty stupid for allowing himself to be bought by his future father-in-law....totally not my thing.
