Well, I've been curious for awhile what a “yellow novel,” much referenced in L.M. Alcott and others, was like. Supposedly this is and example, and this is free on archive.org.
I'm pretty much just sitting here, scratching my head and wondering how this could have ever been “popular” fiction? York has to learn his lesson the hard way, and we are left to speculate whether it really stuck in the end. He showed himself to be a fool for a controlling, inconsiderate woman. Oh, well.
I can say that it was well written. I read on with a sort of sad fascination, because the Bink kiddos definitely redefined “naughty”!
