I'm still bouncing between 3.5 stars and 4. I like Gideon and I wanted to read his story. I thought it sucked hardcore how he could only speak in lies. So I wanted his happy ending but I didn't think about how his book would be in the ass backwards speak. So it got to me a bit halfway through. I like Scarlett and her story broke my heart a bit so i love that she got her happy ending. I seem to love the side stories. It sets up the next stories really well...like right now I need to see what's up with Amun. So...I guess I am giving this four stars. LOL
We continue the story of the Lords of the Underworld with Gideon's story. He is the keeper of the demon Lies. He speaks in lies all day long because if he speaks the truth his blood turns to acid and his bones begin to liquefy and he eventually passes out from the pain.
I like Gena Showalter and her writing style... I really do. HOWEVER, I feel like she lost some steam on this one after a great “The Darkest Passion”. It was slow most of the time, jumped from Gideon and Scarlet to Amun and Strider at all the wrong times. OH and I was SUPER ANNOYED by Scarlet. I have never been irritated by any of the featured heroines in the book but Scarlet took that award. Her back and forth, her wanting to leave after Gideon begged her to stay even after admitting that is what she wanted to hear and still leaving... just frustrating and emotionally draining especially because it lasted so long and kept on as a recurring theme UNTIL THE END. I liked Gideon enough but I did think his point of realization of the love he felt for Scarlet was rushed.
The theme of this entire book was LIES. I got that real quick and to get to the truth and the end of the book was a bit tiring. Parts of the book just didn't come together as cohesively as it could have. It was so choppy and so heavily coated by lies that by the end of the book I wasn't sure any truths were told in full to wrap up Gideon and Scarlet's story. This at least is something the other books had.
I really hope Amun and Strider's stories are better. I am leery about them seeing as how by the end of this book Strider is feeling something for Haidee who is supposed to be Amun's love interest in the next book and Strider is supposed to hook up with Kaia who Amun was interested in but had his reservations because she slept with another Lord, Paris. TOTAL WEIRDNESS!
