This was a solid historical fiction story written for young teens in the 1930s era. The girl is pretty, brave, and smart; the young man who give hints of being a future love interest is polite, resourceful, and eager to do the right thing. Her father is away at sea when her grandmother dies and Anne has to go live with friends. A conniving “friend” is simultaneously plotting to betray his friends as well as his country, and Anne keeps playing into his plots innocently. Of course there is trouble as soon as she figures it out!
A pleasant story of the Revolutionary era in Connecticut which has strong lead characters and a dash of mystery and danger.
