This was a really cute story. Meg could have been sassier but honestly this was a story about growth. Meg grows a lot in this story. I know typically the twisted tales fall under YA but honestly this leans a little middle grade for me. Their is a big conversation about grief and love and what happens when those mix. Seeing a different twist on the Persephone and Hades story was fun too. Getting the trio of Meg, pegasus, and Phil was great to see as well. I feel like this book flowed really well and was pretty quick to read.
I could practically see the movie of this in my head. I pretty much guessed that Virginia was still alive. My guess was that she was Mrs.Baker. I was sorta right. She was really Lenora and Lenora was Virginia. Wild. Then I was like okay Lenora is some evil woman who has basically trapped her sister after killing their parents. okay I was semi right. What I didn't see coming was Kit's dad. That felt a little left field for me but its a murder mystery book its gonna happen. Overall a fun book and Virginia essentially having the last laugh was a kiss on top of this cake.
What can I say about this book? It was a roller-coaster of emotions. Sharkie's story definitely got to me a bit. Bel and Lily's love story is so heartwarming. I was definitely missing the other characters from the Hell's Belles series from tiktok and I hope we get more books from Jaysea Lynn in this world.
Holy shit. Danny Trejo has been through so much. He met fucking Charles Manson before he was Ya know a cult leader. He's gone threw the prison system, gone threw rehabilitation, been leader in recovery, a movie star, and a restaurant owner. It's wild. I felt like I was reading a story by my dad and grandpa at the same time. Both of them are passed now and the addiction and prison stuff really reminds me of my dad and Trejo's god talk and story telling reminds me of my grandpa. I am simply amazed at everything Danny Trejo has done and gone through.
Cute!
This one is pretty good. It does take a hell of a fight for Calix and Gabriele to get together. The action does speed up after they do get together however I don't feel like this had a satisfying ending. We don't get a resolution to who set the fires, unless that was covered in book one and I am being a silly goose. It does feel like the book ends abruptly. We get an MMA fight from Calix, his father comes back, and then one last spice scene. Its just feels like we built up to something just to be cut off. Its the main reason my rating is three stars and not four because we get so abruptly cut off. These books in this are set up to be a different couple so its not like Gabriele and Calix's story will continue out right in the next one. We may get glimpses like we did of Six and Amamedo in this one but that'll probably be it. I think I will continue in this series mainly because I want to see who we'll follow next. Although the next couple I don't think was set up in this one like Calix and Gabe were in the first one so we'll see. Other than the ending everything was good, spice was good.
Good!
This review has spoilers. Totally called the third act breakup. I just knew it from the moment Anni's mom recognised Creigh. Like come on Rina Kent you can't hurt them like this. I really need to dive into her other works to get the parents stories. Is their stories for the grandparents too? If their is I'd like to know. Anyway Creigh is the embodiment of grumpy and possiveness. Anni is just a sweet soul that like me loves the color purple. I did not expect their story to be the second one we read as apart of this series. I do like how the characters fight for each other towards the end but their out of nowhere suicidal actions/almost actions is a no for me. Creigh's backstory is absolutely tragic and horrible. Such a young age to go through so much. I am a little confused if Lia (Anni's mom) actually committed the murder of Creigh's bio dad or not and if everyone else is just covering and saying Anni's Dad did it. I am really enjoying getting the parents pov's when super high emotional points happen as a sorta soft break from the main characters when shit hits the fan in these books. Safe to say Rina Kent has me in a chokehold with this series.
Rafael is one fucked up soul but so is Dominic. Rafael getting closure. Dominic provides a certain balance to the chaotic Rafael. Seeing these two give each other exactly need. Their will always be something about two fucked up people getting together that will be deeply pleasing to my soul. Rina Saint has me in a choke hold with these MM Romance. Also that was a very satisfying end to The Collecto... fuck him!
This Book takes me back to the days of my teenage self staying up way too late reading mafia romances on wattpad. This book is fast paced despite the number of chapters. It mainly focuses on dialog which adds to how fast I was able to read it. Its not a very descriptive book but I think its fine. The spice scenes were good but could have been darker given its a mafia book. Honestly the nostalgia from the past is a big contributor to my high rating.
This is quiet cute but in the book no one actually gets lucky, its teased at the end but this is 113 pages of misunderstanding and coming back together to fail spectacularly at having their first time together. I don't actually remember much about these characters except that Percy has epilepsy but for some reason I remember it being diabetes/sugar sickness (Thats what they would have called in within the time period the book takes place). I probably would have enjoyed this more after a reread of The Gentlemen's Guide to vice and virtue but I recall trying to do a reread of it and failing miserably/disliking it the second time. For a novella with a decidication that reads: To all the fan fiction that gave me the sex education I never got in school; I expected more. I can appreciate the inheritant awkwardness that comes with the first time you do it with someone that is reflected in this novella.
Another great one in the series. The ever expanding mystery around Cassie's mother is always fun to see the next twist. I am still wanting for the other characters to have povs especially when the books are about them. This one focused on Sloan and she is basically Spencer Reid. I knew a fibonacci story line was going to happen as it was one thing I had been kinda spoiled about as it was one of the links to Criminal Minds that was pretty apparent from reviews/ recommendations for this book series. I should have figured out that Sloan's story would be the fibonacci story as well since she is the numbers girl and the most like Spencer. I feel like we could have gotten more from her story but a lot of focus was towards Cassie and her ptsd from the last two books. I feel like Nightshade gave himself up way too quick in the end but we'll see how he comes into play in the next one.
This was a really fun and fast read once I got into it. I was honestly surprised by the fact that Julian was still alive when they found him and Tio Cartiz being a bad guy really surprised me. I am glad that Julian didn't fall into the trope of ghost person actually isn't dead but forget everything when they come back. Yads proving himself in more ways than one seemed like an ongoing theme and he sure did it. Overall I really liked this one.
This was a really cute book. A bit of a slow burn but brothers best friend who has loved her since they were kids is hella cute. I am also a sucker for when a book says the book title at some point in the story. Rosie and Ford are so cute together. Their bickering is funny and Ford being a dad when in reality he doesn't have to is amazing. Overall a pretty good book.
This was another great one by Navessa Allen. I am excited for the third book coming out later this year. I didn't expect to be following Aly's Cousin Nic Junior, however you could make books on the whole family at this point. This was a very sex postive book, I would say. Lo being a camgirl and Nic basically living for it was amazing. Nic being so protective and would do anything for his girl or make it so she could do anything was very cute and heartwarming. Walter was adorable. Lo's friends ready to defend her at any moment was a highlight, even when it included dildo welding. Need me some ride or dies like that. Overall I really enjoyed this book.
Okay.
Honestly I don't think military style books are for me. I was left wanting more of the relationship development but got more combat/training instead. Nothing in this book really feels high stakes or at least it didn't for me. Them being already mission oriented probably is why. I also wasn't surprised by anything that transpires in this book mainly because you aren't given the opportunity to forgot who the big reveal guy is. Honestly the spice was okay but I have certainly read darker and generally think this isn't as dark as marketed to me. Unless the whole dark ops / killing machines thing was supposed to be the dark part. You could honestly probably take out the romance aspects and have a good military/ dark ops fiction.
Should have DNF
I don't know where to begin. We get the barest hints of omegaverse. You could have said this was a werewolf book and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. We don't get any spice til 309 pages in. You can have a slow burn omegaverse but literally every side character is like y'all should be together. This book hammers in that the alphas are grieving and our fmc is running away from her old pack. When I say hammer I mean it. Its every chapter even after they are forced together by accident bond (which that leans more werewolf to me). I can only be told something so many times before it becomes annoying. This book does a lot of telling rather the showing. I feel like this wasn't edited. For huge chucks of this book each sentence is a new paragraph. I have no clue the timeline because the alphas set up dates and stuff but I swear they set up the dates when they were all with her taking care of her for her heat. Also she gets gifted four journals in like a span of less than a week. I like journals but to get four in a week come on. Also every chapter it looks like the first two letters aren't connected and most of the chapters start with the. Its so obvious and annoying. I have no clue what anyone looks like but I sure as heck know their scent. The spice scenes were the most bland things I ever read, I had to reread the first one because I hardly noticed it was spice. I honestly don't know if an actual human wrote this and if a human did write this their editors pulled one over on them. This just sucked.
Note: Read 126 pages as apart of 75 Booked
Yum!
My first hockey one! This one feels super fast paced but I think a lot of that is how quickly I flew through the texting. I don't think Jaye Pratt has featured texting like that before. I feel we also went a little younger too, instead of like mid to late 20's we're more early college age. I think this one was really fun and quick, just don't read in the middle of a snow storm like I did - certain scenes will make things feel colder than they actually are.
Okay
This is a cozy smutty little omegaverse romance. This book contains character art at the beginning of each chapter but its the same ones throughout, in my honest opinion if your gonna shell out money for character art switch it up. Just having the same images over and over again get a little tedious. That's just a little nitpick of mine. Their isn't really a big dramatic moment in the book which feels weird like I was expecting a big event that never happened. Dare I say characters act like mature human beings in this one, it feels strange. Honestly this just sits as regular omega verse story to me. I would prefer the boyfriends being boyfriends just to make this a little less straight but that's just my opinion.
So hot take I think I would have preferred if Tyler and Poppy didn't get back together in the end. Yes this book is a romance and yes the get back together after drama is common but I feel like them getting back together cuts off Tyler's spiritually journey. I am not even that spiritual but like the books sets him up for a spiritual journey. He's a priest who quiet easily breaks his vow and like Poppy was supposed to show him his next path but she was only a door to his next path not the end goal. I have no clue if that makes sense but it does to me . Poppy is on her own journey of self love but what irks me is we don't get her POV. We get her very sexual confessions but not her pov. We get no window into her choices other than conversation with Tyler. Also you can kind of tell when this book was written. I was like this book feels so dated with its references and yeah I was right. It also brought up the references quiet a lot as its both their favorite show (The Walking Dead) and Tyler's inner dialog about if he's being a bad feminist feels like a 2015 conversation I heard or read a dozen times. Overall this book was just okay. The smut was alright. The story didn't do anything wrong or offensive its just okay. Thats all I can say.
Addictive!
This story was so easy for me to fly through. If I didn't read this over Thanksgiving I would have finished this sooner. This also threw me back into my Wattpad days of reading mafia MM stories. Those were the days. This definitely isn't as dark as some of my reads so I definitely think it could be darker. I also do wish we delved into Six's issues because he doesn't feel as well rounded as he could be and typically his issues would only come to the surface if he ran away from his Daddy. I do think I'll continue with this series as I did enjoy this one. Plus I love when books hint at the next one like this one did.
Ahhhh!
Jaye Pratt knocks this one out of the park. They all where mask, can I get an Amen? This one is so fun and breaks from the usual pattern of masked men going after the girl. Aspen being in a mask was refreshing. Arlo being the one chased even more fun. Ridge's possiveness was delightful as he was less jealous and more be glad I share. Him being the root cause of most of the stalking behavior is a definite bonus. Zealand's flirty behaviour was just icing on the cake. I honestly can't stop reading masked books by Jaye Pratt.
I honestly don't know how to rate this. This was quiet the read. I quiet enjoyed The Sopranos (minus the last two episodes which I refuse to watch because some shows I never want to end). Each episode is broken down and analyzed in great detail and with anecdotes littered throughout. The interview with David Chase gives off an air of mystery much like the final ending to the show. I wish the newspaper clippings were littered in with the essays on the episodes so you could get a feel of a better then and now (when the book was written). I also didn't realize Steve Buscemi was a director, I know he's done stuff on Boardwalk Empire but I had no idea he was involved with The Sopranos. I guess my only reference for him is Adam Sandlers friend. I mainly picked this book up to learn more about the beloved show and my brain sure was tickled. I do quiet like when things get explained to me so I do wish I had an audiobook to listen to for this one as I'd be like a breakdown on YouTube for me. I also found myself really appreciating this one. I was getting emotional when we got to The Eulogies section at the end of the book. I think we forget that these actors are people just like us and so are the people behind the screen. They all genuinely loved James Gandolfini and miss him dearly. This is gonna be another rare no stars from me because how do you rate something like this.
This book was a fantastic read. I had worried that I might feel like the translation wouldn't be perfect or make sense but I was pleasantly surprised that it was perfect and quiet enjoyable. Tiger the Tabby doesn't save books but rather acts as a guide for Rintaro in order for him to save the books. I could picture this book as a Studio Ghibli movie. It was colorful and the characters were fun. Tiger was sassy and fun. Rintaro was more aloof but sometimes serious. Sayo was classic Class Rep archetype. This book talks about books and some of the fears readers/book lovers can face. Rintaro deals with each labyrint with logic all while dealing with the grief of his grandfather's death. Rintaro learns to face the world rather than hide from it all while still loving books. Overall great read and I would highly recommend this.
Another great one by McConaughey! I don't read poetry often nor do I think I am a poetry person but I felt this was a easy read for me. I do believe this reflects McConaughey's belief that life is a dance and we all dance to the beat of our own drum, our at least that's my take. I don't think these poems are deeply profound but I think all can enjoy them. I did enjoy the doodles throughout on and off what appears to be sticky notes. They are simple but are nice to see. I wish I could have tandem read this with the Audiobook but I wasn't able too. I just had to read it with a McConaughey voice in my head. This was a very quick read and I flew through it.
