Chef's kiss!
This one is another great one in the series of standalone novellas. Jaye Pratt is Queen of the masked men book market, in my opinion - Also with how often these books are being released reminds me of a certain Hamilton song. This one is quick and full of delicious spice. The men are toxic but hot and Skye our man girl eats it up. I feel like every chapter had spice and the typical drama of the reveal wasn't super dramatic but I think that's because I feel like we got the mens povs more than Skye's and also she seemed more than ready to be with them. Overall checks all my boxes.
This was a book that kind of told on itself. Our narrator Malcom is very unreliable and practically tells on himself right away. Once the references to over such narrators were made I immediately knew your narrator wasn't to be trusted as well as the fact that after meeting the FBI agent the next chapter was like I lied. The retired cop being the other killer was surprising because I felt like it came out of left field. I was expecting Gwen to be the other killers if I am being honest after the FBI suspension. The murders felt very screen fades to black/off screen. Even the murders that get described to us feel simplistic given the murder book reference we get. Also I did not realize the cover was of books (looks like paperbacks)
I don't think I am gonna give this one a star rating mainly because I am so conflicted on how I feel about this. So I found out this book is apparently YA because I was looking for the audiobook on Libby but couldn't find one, I could only find an illustrated version of this book(A strange choice). I definitely think this was a choice to make this YA, considering this retelling is based off the version of Medusa that is SA'd by Poseidon and their wasn't even a tigger warning about it. However I feel like this story reads more adult and also kind of like a text book. Like I was utterly bored by the story telling and I generally love Medusa. I think she can be a symbol of power for many. The whole book reference the assault of a fourteen year old Medusa and is set only four years after. The wound still feels very fresh for Medusa. This also is a retelling of Medusa and Perseus although I don't know if you can really call it a retelling because it ends as a role reversal and basically leaves Perseus' mothers fate possibly worse. We have literally conversation where Medusa is begging Perseus to connect her and his mother but its like he completely ignores that connection and just is like stupid man must attack the monster. I think many could find the ending powerful I just didn't. I felt like if you want to change the ending you could have had Perseus realize the evils of men(gods too) and teamed up with Medusa to save his mother and similar women. I think that's why I am so conflicted because I can see that this book can be powerful for people but it just didn't hit for me. I read the non-illustrated which I honestly don't think I would have been comfortable reading the illustrated version given how prevalent the trauma of the SA is. I generally don't like any form of illustrated SA (Lore Olympus I am looking at you for traumatizing me) so I probably wouldn't have reacted well. Overall I don't think this was a bad book or bad retelling but it just didn't hit the nail on the head for me.
Too slow!
I swear this book could have been half the length it was. It just felt really long winded and super slow but months pasted ??? Like I couldn't really get a sense of time passing other than the odd mention here and there but even that was confusing. I also felt like their wasn't details to describe things other than scents. The spicy scenes were kinda boring. The big conflict was lack luster at best. Their is a lot of references to the previous books characters but I believe these books can be read as standalones but their are so many characters named that it kind of all gets lost. I don't think the character art was needed for each chapter. A couple of times would have been fine. Also I don't know if this was explained in the what is omegaverse part of the book but male omegas can't get pregnant?!?! Like what? Like isn't that the point of it, other than scents and dynamics. Reading that towards the end kinda threw me off. Honestly the chapters were short but it just felt like forever to progress. I would have gotten to the point way quicker.
Unhinged!
This maybe the most unhinged book I have ever read. It puts any fan fiction that is similar ( and I've read) to shame. The pace is pretty quick and just keeps you reading. Spicy, unhinged, mm omegaverse happens to be a perfect combo meal for me. I don't think I've read anything faster in my life. Lots of references to spicy Alien books for those of you who read it (maybe I should start reading that myself). Overall pretty good read.
Awesome!
This was a great ending to this trilogy. I do wish I read this around the time I read the other books that probably would have added to my enjoyment of this book/series. This book was filled with all the action we were building up to in the previous books and with plenty of spice attached as well. I think this is one of the uniquest retelling of beauty and the beast (or in this case beast) I have ever read and I could honestly go for more like this.
Holy hell! This book was powerful. Set in 1970 we follow ‘Fern' as she gets taken to a home for unwed mothers. We follow her journey in the rest of her pregnancy and how she and her friends become witches. Every anxiety is felt , every pain is moving. This book reflects the collective fears of women in our past and it expresses modern fears after the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Grady Hendrix does his research and he does it because he knows the impact of it. He's loved women who's been through the pains of the maternity homes and he makes sure every word reflects their pains. The scariest part of this book isn't the witches, its the truth of how women were treated at these homes. Nothing can be scarier than the truth.
Another solid book in the Percy Jackson universe. The fact I got to read this in October added to the spooky vibes within. I feel like I learned more about Hecate (or at least the Percy Jackson version of her). I also loved the extra section in the back that described other witches in Greek mythology. I feel like this trial wasn't too hard for our beloved crew to get through which can only mean the last quest for the last recommendation will be a tough one. I did switch between physically reading and listening to the audiobook I borrowed from Libby.
Red hot!
I switched between my kindle and a Libby audio borrow to read this book. Killian is a dark and broody man. Glyndon is a sweet little rabbit. The more I read of Rina Kent the more invested I get in her Inter tangled world. I am most likely going to end up with a list of books as long as I am. Honestly can't wait to continue the series and eventually collect trophies for my shelves.
This is one of those books I couldn't stop reading once I actually picked it up. I ate up every moment of this dark romance. It felt more light and fluffy than most of the dark romance I read. These two pinned for eachother for four years and once the damn finally broke they got together and spice ensued, after 200 pages. I really like their dynamics and the little pieces we get of the next books that I will be definitely picking up in the future.
I switched between physically reading this book and listening to it. This is a great continuation of The Naturals. We mainly dive into Dean this book. Cassie is still our narrator and we get the ominous You sections too. However I am disappointed that we didn't get Dean's pov. It would be interesting in my opinion to get the other naturals prospectives and even the agents. I am liking the series so far and YA is generally a fast read for me. I will have to pick up the rest of the series and look more into Jennifer Lynn Barnes' books.
Is it really a McManus book without murder? I feel like we got not only an amazing murder mystery but also a heist and even more nefarious deeds done by the adults of this book. I definitely love the brother and sister dynamic that Kat and Liam got. I am left wishing we got Augustus pov. The povs felt incomplete without the third musketeer. I did listen to this via Libby but I own the physical copy. I love Karen M. McManus' books and the crazy situation the teens from her stories get in to. I believe I am now officially caught up with everything she's written and excited to see what's next.
This book is truly made up of all the things. Grief and Love mix into a thrilling tale of death, loss, and the things parents would do to protect their children. The past never stays buried for long. Laura loved her son so much it meant she lost a lot of things including her husband. Beth and Nicole may fight a lot but their is nothing like finding out your brother is a murder to bring you together. I am glad for their happy ending and Micheal got what was coming to him for too long.
I listened to the audiobook which had multiple voice actors like the book having multiple povs which I always enjoy. I own the physical copy. Its still in a cardboard sleeve just like an old vsh tape and will stay that way because its too fitting not too.
Toxic but Yummy!
These two would absolutely kill each other in a heart beat but dang do they love hard. Like yeah its incredibly toxic and problematic but honestly its like these two characters cracked each other open and made each other whole. Anyway this way a nice juicy thick read and took me a while to get through but I am glad to have read it and wanna read more Rina Kent.
Creepy!
I think this is one of the creepiest stories I've ever read by Grady Hendrix. Holy crap this one is unnerving and heart wrenching. Like creatures your supposed to straight up ignore or else like fuck that I am out. How the fuck does someone buy a house in this area knowing about these creatures especially with kids or planning to have em. Absolutely wild and bone chilling.
Cute.
If you want a cute little omegaverse read then this is your book! There are multiple pov's. We got pack dynamics. We got asexual rep. Chosen family/pack vibes. Honestly really cute and quick to read. It does have some spice but I could have used a little more in my opinion (lets be for real I could always use more spice). Honestly if ya just want a cozy read pick this one up.
Quick!
I wanted to read a quick book today and I already want to read Butcher & Blackbird so I figured why not check out this little book by Brynne Weaver and see if I like her writing style. Its also a nice little glimpse into her characters. This was definitely what I was looking for with murder and a dash of spice on top. Not a bad little read!
What can I say? Ya girl loves some Greek Gods Smut. Each chapter a different god. The book is chock full of spice with trigger warnings before each chapter and a long list at the beginning just so you can read what you like and skip what you don't. It's MM so if your not into that then don't read. This nearly 300 page book was amazing. I really like the ending too but I won't spoil it. This took me maybe a day to read with mini pauses here and there. I highly recommend this one.
Fun
I think this was a really fun read. The spice scenes weren't as spicy as I would have liked. I feel like this book also relied heavily on dialogue more than I am used too but the banter was excellent between our main characters. I think we can all agree that we hate Cameron and have from the moment he first spoke. How our girl, Regan, didn't hate him the enter time I will never understand. I do feel that I might have had a better time listening than reading physically/on kindle but I will say that over all I had a good time reading the book. You can't really go wrong with tatt'd biker men and our dear author set up plenty to be our next mmc's.
Woof!
This was a rough read. It read like really bad fan fiction and as a girl who's read her fair share of fan fiction this was rough. For such a short book I expected more spice between our main characters but I did not get that. It took til chapter 12 ( out of 15 btw) for them to start hooking up and the spicy scene nearly put me to sleep. Like if your into a bit of a slow burn maybe but not for me. I did like that the main characters both were bi. However that is really the only good thing. The characters seemed a bit desperate and I did not understand a single conversation.
I am disappointed with this book. With the marketing I was given I was thinking fantasy based on Greek mythology, Why Choose, Dark Romance since me the fuck up.
The actual book.... is more dystopian with a fmc that is in constant pain and out of her mind with men that look at her and get obsessed.
I started physically reading this book then switched to Audio then switched back to physically reading because the audiobook hold wait list is very long which I understand from tiktok blowing it up. I have spent month reading this book just hoping it would get better... it has not.
The constant time moving forward with essentially the fmc being in pain and starving then being thrown into getting healed and stuffing her face is very boring when days, weeks, or months go by and we little to no details about that time. The fmc was completely out of her mind most of the time. The society of people she is fighting to get into is really misogynistic and you'd think they'd treat women better/equal in a society that seems to have a dwindling female population, if I remember correctly. The men in this book seem to full into the trope of she's the main character so of course I am obsessed with her or I am an asshole to be an asshole.
The character Helen. Why the fuck did we need to have a convo with the female mc about the female mc's nipples in a dress? Like do it for other women? What? Helen is sixteen by the way. This conversation ends with the fmc folding like she does in most situations despite being uncomfortable. Helen is also one of the most vain characters constantly worried about her appearance while simultaneously wanting to be like the fmc and do the crucible.
The only bright spot is Nyx the snake who is like a sarcastic old lady who very much enjoys sex and let's fmc know it. I wanted more from these 512 pages and was sadly disappointed.
I didn't know much about the Alright, Alright, Alright man and now it feels as if a friend has given me live lessons to think and reflect on. I wanna search for my own greenlights and tell my own story even better. Matthew McConaughey is almost lyrical as he voices the audiobook and the physical copy is filled with photos, little notes from scraps of papere
