I like that the Layla has a very different power, electrocution and mind reading from an accident. She is a loner because of it. She meets Vlad in interesting circumstances. The book is very fast paced and stippled with some satirical humor. I listened to it in just one sitting. I found reasons to keep listening to it.
This was really good book with a very interesting turn that you don't expect. I did find it a bit hard to remember that this is a young boy that is the main character. But then I remind myself that he is considered a prodigy. His manner of speaking is so adult as is many of the boys around him. Some are childish and bullyish which brings you right back to the age level that they are. When I found out that they were actually doing real war games against an enemy was dumbfounded and then understood why they were so hard on Ender. But I felt so sorry for him for he had no childhood.
this was an excellent book. A bit unnerving as well. The reliance on the “Forum” and “Lux” is eerily like Facebook and Siri. Or what could become in the future if we are not careful. It sort of gave me the creeps but I could not put the book down. It is sure to be a bestseller and possibly win some awards as well. I'm going to find this author's other book and see if the writing is as good as this one was.
I did not like the beginning of this book. The first few chapters with both the main charachters bordered on rape and kidnapping, even though it did not happen it really turned me off But after I got past my original reservations of the first few chapters it started to intrigue me. By the end I was enjoying it and will say that I will probably read more of the series.
