This is a really good dystopian story. There was a virus that happened above ground killing humans. They call it reassortment. This causes humans that are left to burrow underground and build a new society. This society is being fractured by different factions. If you are loyal to Beimeni and its absolute rule your reward is to live forever. But the rulers are becoming more and more dictatorial and some people are trying to fight against this.
They have found ways to go into space but not to the surface of their world. They keep trying but have been unsuccessful.
I am really looking forward to the next book in this series.
This is a great addition to the series. In this one Cornelius is coming into his own and we get more of his story. Really great dystopian series. It is getting even better which I didn't think possible. The story is very different and very well fleshed out. I feel like I have a really great grasp of what it is like underground.
Looking forward to the next one in the series.
This is very different from Robin McKinley's other books. It was a bit drawn out but over all I enjoyed it. The interaction between Sunshine and Constantine was not forced and seemed to develop over a few months instead of instantly which seemed very real. Other than that the world seemed a bit one dimensional as well as many of the other characters.
It was interesting to hear Maureen's story. It really delves into the beginning of the Long and Howard Families. Not for the prudish as it definitely has lots of incest related storyline but not violent type. Always consensual. But then again if you have ever read a Heinlein book before you already know that. LOL. Once you can get past that it is a very good story.
This was another story of Odd Thomas a young man who can see and communicate with spirits or ghosts. He can also see demon-like beings that are intent on harming others. Odd is staying at a monastery where he seeking quiet reflection time. Of course there is no rest for him. He needs to find a way to help the young students in the school attached to the monastery who are all in some way damaged, either mentally or physically. Odd shows his capacity for love and caring with these children and they love and care for him back.
Love this series. It keeps getting better with each book.
Sookie's in trouble again. A young girl who was found on Eric's property ha been killed. Eric was drinking her blood earlier in the evening. He or Sookie or Bill are suspects. Raphael the King of Louisianna is in town to find out what happened to Victor. Sookie finds a cluviel dor that was given to her from fairy that fathered her children. Everyone seems to be trying to separate Sookie and Eric. Her fae family included. Good addition to the series.
Another Sookie story that I really loved. I love that the story still intrigues me enough to keep going. The gang is up against Victor who is in charge of the area but really wants Eric to be gone because he senses a threat. Eric and Sookie need to be one step ahead of him at all times. We have the fairies Dermott and Claude and her friend Amelia who all keep butting into her love life.
This is a return to good storytelling by Laurell Hamilton. Lately I've been a little tired of the love triangle between Anita, Jean-Claude and Richard. Anita steps away from them for a little while and is helping Edward in Arizona. Turns out Ed is known there as Ted and has a girlfriend and her two kids in his life. People are being skinned alive and Edward asks for her help in finding out who is doing this.
Temperance Brennan is involved in recovering bodies from a plane crash. A foot that does not match anyone one the plane. She starts investigating who it belongs to. Then she starts getting threats telling her to stay out of it. Then her career is being sabotaged in this process. The stories are getting better and better each one in the series.
The book takes place in 2065. The word has been taken over by an alien race called the Kurians. They need to devour blood and auras to live longer. They have bred Reapers to collect these for them. The world is in shambles and a some people team together to try to fight them. David Valentine is a young recruit who wants to avenge his parents death at their hands but also winds up wanting to avenge others like him. In order to succeed they get extra powers “wolflike” to help them in this pursuit. The Lightbringers who are also from the Kurian race help them when they can, mainly by giving them these powers. Not everyone can handle them. There are a couple of different types that are made Wolves, Cats and Bears. David is a wolf and moves up in the ranks of the militia that is formed to combat the Kurians.
I enjoyed the beginning of the book but it dragged a little in the middle. Too much military stuff for my taste although I understood its significance. But by the end I really enjoyed it. I will read the next book in the series.
I really enjoyed this one. The interaction between the “Krewe” was fun and enjoyable. I really enjoyed that Angela and Jackson are the main characters despite being around lots of younger people. This is the beginning of a series and I am looking forward to more of this story. I hope the “Krewe” doesn't change too much and that we can get some continuing storyline between the people.
Most Harlequin Nocturne books are good but not always great. This one was so great. There is a lot of tension between vampire factions and humans. Alexia Fox and Damon who is a daysider, a vampire that can stay in the light. Even though they are on opposite sides they have a strong attraction. They are both investigating an illegal colony for each of their sides. They have to work together when someone is trying to kill them both.
Lainie Terrell works as a showgirl to provide for her young son Dexter. One of her neighbors Harry and also an accountant for the same place she works for watches her son occasionally. Lainie's ex and the child's father tries to get Dexter and Harry jumps out the window with Dexter. Lainie and Harry take Dexter to a safe place and then they try to lure Joey away from Dexter by going to a time share resort.
This was an enjoyable read if not very plausible. But that's why its called fiction LOL. It was a good escape from reality.
Rachel Garrett is a night shift coroner and a body is brought in of Etienne Argeneau shot earlier. She had a fever so when he comes to life she thinks it was just a fever hallucination. But then Etienne is killed again and the madman who did tried to finish him off but kills Rachel instead. Then Etienne turns her to save her life since she gave her life for him. This was a quick read, very enjoyable.
I read this for a challenge and since I'm not usually a reader of m/m type books I was a little reluctant to read it. I was pleasantly surprised. It was a really good book. Actually it is two short stories that follow each other but easily read as a whole. I found the characters well fleshed out and believable. The stories drew me in and I forgot about it being m/m story. Even the romance in the book was so good that it didn't make me feel uncomfortable.
I am very glad I read the prequel novella before reading this one. The novella [book:Alpha & Omega 5393637. It shows Anna Latham, a rare and valuable Omega wolf and her story which is very important to know for this novel because it takes place immediately from the prequel and would have been horribly confusing.Anna and Charles (the Marrocks youngest son) head to Montana to start a new life. Being an Omega means she can calm down a werewolf, giving peace to a species of volatile monsters, she in invaluable. But she was brutalized by her maker so she is very fearful and doesn't know the extent of her powers.I think this is a beginning to a great series. Hopefully they will all be as intriguing as this one.
Neil Gaiman continues to produce strange and bizarre stories. But they are always intriguing. This one is no different. Part adult and part young adult in content.
It is the story of young boy who encounters a girl named Lettie who promises to always protect him. She takes him to a place where unfortunately he gets “infected” with a dark entity who ultimately seems to want to claim him.
The story was so compelling that I finished it in three days (it not a long story).
