I thought the author made a great depiction of depression and mental illnesses. The narrator's train of thought was so unfiltered and raw that I even found myself laughing at times.
I admit I related to wanting to remove yourself from the world. At times, this seems like an enticing option but most cannot afford it. It was good that the author acknowledged the narrator's privilege. Detaching yourself from situations and people (healthy or not) is not even an option for the majority of people.

Excellent exemplification of Existentialism: what matters is what you personally give value to because there are no answers to the question of our existence.
The descriptions are absolutely perfect.
"Why are we here? What should we do? It is what it is."

So sad. Gatsby's pursue (and the American Dream he symbolizes) was in vain. No matter how hard you work, new money will never compare to old money. A hundred years ago and so many aspects of American society ring true.

I had such a hard time getting though this. Don't get me wrong, the book is well written and the story is one that deserves to be told. Nonetheless, I couldn't wait for it to be over. I'm not unfamiliar with the witch trials and yet I was outraged the whole time. In this specific story, a woman died not because the Puritans were scared of the devil but because her husband didn't listen to her. Thomas had several opportunities to decline the widow's invitations and to go live somewhere else and yet he did not. Not until Maggie was already dead, that is. My disdain for him is huge despite the arc of redemption the author tried to give him.

I thought this was going to be all lighthearted and boy was I wrong. I was enraged, frustrated and sad most of the read. Nolan's trauma was heavy but I think the shame, guilt and the stigma that the victims of sexual abuse face was well portrayed.

Positives: It showcases mental health problems in queer men that are not always at the forefront of texts.
For the rest all I can say is that it was very of repetitive: kiss ex then guilt, blow ex then guilt, etc. But he kept doing it 🤷🏻♀️
Elijah's a weird psycho to me, what do u mean u went stalking your monk ex boyfriend after 5 years apart?
