Started out great, even though it had very little action, which is normally not to my liking, and I found myself fascinated by the strange story - but at 2/3rds the timeline made a sudden twist and I got confused and got lost and gave it up.

I read, in other reviews, that plotting and timing are her weak points. Such a pity. Publishers have editors, don't they?

Abandoned at 4/5ths. The book does not come alive. I remember liking some of his work in the past.

Short stories.

Unlike her usual, witty love stories this ia a long drawn out story about the unnecessary moral qualms of the heroine. The madness of the cousin his mother wants the heroine to marry is pretty ludicrous - misunderstood, weirdly construed - and the madness of the mother gets hardly explained. I left the last quarter unread.

Abandoned. The characters did not grab me.

Very nice book, but I was listening to it as an audiobook read by the author. She has a slight speech defect which made it too hard to get for me as a non native speaker. Gave up halfway. Must finish it in print.

Interesse verloren op een-derde. Ik ben het eens met zijn cultuurpessimisme, en zijn hekel aan massatoerisme, maar het boek heeft niet genoeg vaart en plot om die kritiek in steeds andere bewoordingen te willen herlezen. En op een-derde zou ik toch wel gepakt moeten zijn. Het is een ideeënboek, met flat characters en een mix van stijlen - essay, roman, persiflage - met vreemde misstappen. Het doet soms briljant en dan weer knullig aan. Kortom: een boek dat lijkt op een doorsnee Nederlandse film - er zit vanalles in aan kwaliteit, maar ja, het is het toch net niet.
